๐Ÿ˜› amitava123gems listed a coral necklace that i wanted to buy. when i clicked the buy it now Option i got a msg that says " Buying Activity Limit Reached

To help protect your account, we limit the amount of items purchased by a single account at any one time.

This buying limit is temporary. You can come back soon and buy more items. "

Now there are NO unpaid items. all items i bought are paid for. i have bid on 5 Items..god alone knows if i will win them or lose the bids to either Shill Bidding or fraud bidders.. in such a case i dont think its fair to place a limit on a buyer. its like ebay is underestimating a persons credit worthiness to pay for a product. my ICICI card gives me a limit of 100,000. my SBI card has a limit of 50,000, my ABN Amro debit card has a balance of rs. 4,50,000/- inspite of this its frustrating when i get this message everytime i bid. i guess ebay should place this limit wen a person has not paid for the items. and not wen a person has just bid on some items.

learned members of the community....what do u say.. am an old member....here...even though this id is just 20 days old..my first id had 95+ ratings!

Rationing on Ebay ??

Hi,

I have an explanation for this which may be correct, but I am not sure.

First, it can be for some technical problem of eBay. We often encounter many strange problems due to this. However, most of those get sorted soon. I have seen a recent posting on the board by amitava123gems where he mentioned about some problems he is facing possibly due to technical reasons attributable to eBay.

Due to the significant increase in fraud bidding, many sellers (incl. me) have enabled buyer verification preference and other buyer preferences. If that's creating the problem, then you contact the seller to enable you to bid on his items. I am sure he will put you in his Buyer Block Exemption List. Then you will be able to buy freely from him irrespective of his buyer preferences.

I have mentioned just about some possible reasons for this problem and can be wrong. The best is to contact eBay thru their Contact Us link to know the actual reason.

Hi,

In addition to my last posting, please note that eBay has recently made some more changes to prevent frauds. The limit on your account may be due to that. In fact someone can use your card details to purchase on eBay without your consent. So the limit does not question your financial capability but tries to protect you from possible frauds. Once you gain more ratings then such regulations will ease. Best Regards ๐Ÿ˜„

thats is utter nonsense. completely ridiculous. ebay has no right to decide the max. number of listings a seller can bid upon.
Agreed, there maybe a number of fraud buyers and non pating sellers, but how can ebay marginalise the interests of genuine buyers by making such a ridiculous policy!!!
If a seller is willing to pay for n number of items, that ebay has no right in denying him that.
I would really to hear from sapna what is the thinking behind such an absurd policy.

i will give some statistics lets see how many of u supporters of this policy agree.. Mr. swarup is like 99.99% supporting all ebay policies however ridiculous they are.... say a seller e.g. teknix has 20 items of Imate Jasjar in stock, and has listed them after incurring charges for listing - gallery view, photo, international etc. i have bid on 3 of his items.. now on da auction closing date, i see that one jasjar is sellig at just 19000 and there are 3 minutes to the end of the auction. the other jasjars are all selling at 49000/- i want to bid but this limit comes in the way...of me getting the item for 19000.

another situation - there are 10 pcs of Jaipuri Bedsheets at Rs, 200 each. total cost = 2000 plus shipping after negotiating with seller has come down from 200/ piece to 200 for the whole lot of 10. i want to buy all 10 thru BUY IT NOW. i keep my card ready for making the payment, but ebay says " look u may be having a card or the money..we still dont want u to buy all the 10" thru this limit. come on guys...buy it now option for smaller value items is a sure fire option for a seller to sell... this seller in my case will have to re-list another 7 again...where as if this limit wasnt there...would have sold all 10 to me and got his profits..!

I SUGGEST THAT INSTEAD OF HAVING LIMITS THIS WAY, BRING IN A SYSTEM AS IN REDIFF SHOPPING WHEREIN A BIDDER IS REQUIRED TO PUNCH IN HIS CREDIT CARD DETAILS BEFORE HE BUYS...AND AS SOON AS THE CARD IS VERIFIED ONLINE THE BID IS ALLOWED...AND AS SOON AS THE BID IS WON THE CARD IS CHARGED.. THUS LEAVING NO SCOPE FOR UNPAID ITEMS... BEEN TELLING THIS EVEN TO THE BAAZEE TEAM...BUT NO ONE LISTENS..... ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE QUALITY THAN QUANTITY....QUALITY MEMBERS NOT QUANITY MEMBERS... EBAY WANTS TO ADD A MILLION CUSTOMERS LIKE OUR MOBILE COMPANIES....WHO ARENT OF ANY USE - NO REVENUE...NO SALES...JUSS A HEADCOUNT THAT WE HAVE AT THE END OF YEAR 2010 - EVERY INDIAN IS A MEMBER OF EBAY!!!

the rediff idea sounds great...and it very much implementable (if for a change ebay does really wants to get into hardcore programming and major structural changes for buyers)
but in my experience of ebay, this is very unlikely to happen...cuz i have often noticed that ebay prefers to go for the soft option, rather than going in for the jugular. You just need to borwse these forums, and some of the members have raised some very genuine concerns, but ebay would rather find a way round it than tackle it.
I am being very critical of ebay and its policies here cuz in my past experience of 6+ months of trading, i have found only one theme at ebay "lets get more numbers to join ebay", which srjsms has very correctly pointed out.
And as far as his case is concerned, we havent got the ebay's side of the view yet, but if what swarup says is correct, then then it is completely absurd.
I just hope for ebay's interest that there is something that we havent discussed here. Something like "a buyer can make more than 5 purchases only if he has more than x feedback". I hope x is a small number. It still wouldnt make sense, but atleast ebay could have a defense.
PINKS, THIS IS WHERE YOU STEP IN.

get ratings...???? as swarup said.....its absurd..either i have to be rating hungry and spend all my money..buying things dat i dont need..just for getting ratings..and in the bargain.....come across a few sellers who do not give ratings even after repeated requests...in which case the whole excercise is a waste...otherwise use unethical means of gaining ratings - create multiple id's sell sumthing cheap..as in gmail invites...some ringtone etc..where in there wudnt be more than 20 rs. spent and get ratings..by buying those items...get +ve ratings..... i know its possible to get 1000+ ratings within just one week...by doing this...the recipe = 1000 email id's + 1000 ebay id's+ list one product+ bid on the product = get 1000 ratings.... after that list items for about 10 lakhs..provide proof of ownership by creating false bills... sell all items...collect payment..and vanish!!probbably this is the american way of ethics!!!
