If the motive of the new feedback system was to protect the buyers from unjust -ve feedback, one thing that could have been done is to not allow sellers to leave -ve feedback after the buyer has left a -ve feedback for them. (allowing the neutral feedback and MFW and ODR). Why go into such a long process?
One of the key priorities of eBay Inc in 2008 is to improve buyer experience. But that is for the established US market! Where buyers are with high reputation and 1 in 3 ppl in the US have had an eBay ID! Thats where the seller hub page and those ideas will work.
Having said that we are creating a Seller Reporting Hub Page to report buyers so that other sellers can block that buyer. Won't this be used against regular buyers who fear loosing their reputation?
Although I agree that as a buyer even i fear those -ve feedbacks. But the entire -ve feedback system is created by eBay with +ve, -ve and neutral. In this case eBay could have simply removed the feedback for buyers and just allow the sellers to leave a comment for the buyer (without the feedback rating). And the feedback score of the buyer could be made up of points given determined by 1) No of payments made, 2) Value of purchase made, etc.
This would have given a v good picture of a member as no buyer or seller would be able to generate those feedbacks by buying cheap stuff...
Another idea could be to show 2 feedback scores (260/10) (separate for buying and selling)
These are just raw ideas i could think of rubbing my eyes in the morning, hope there will be some deep thought and the COMMUNITY will really be consulted!
