Hope the following Q/A will help you for your query (Replied by Indian Post in Discuss all your shipping related queries with Indian Posts Workshop)
Q. I am a small one-time seller, who has got an order from an international customer? Would the procedure for me be the same? Is there any simpler way?
A. Procedure is same for Bulk and Small seller. Before booking of speed post articles, customs clearance is essential. Following items/documents need to be submitted to customs -
1) covering letter to Asst Commissioner of Customs, Export Section
2) IE code (for commercial/trade customers)
3) Customs declarations forms - CN-23, CP-71 ( we will be putting up scanned copies of these forms as well)
4) Invoice - 3 copies
5) Rs 2/- Court fee stamp
6) P.P. Form ( Exchange Control Form) in duplicate, duly attested by Bank.
For 1 time sellers who do not need to pay any export-duty, documentation is minimal. Only the relevant forms need to be filled (items 3 & 4).

In this case you are bound to send another gem without any claim to courier.
I had faced similar case like you. Out of five pieces, 2 pcs were taken out by the delivery boy. As the family members/receivers were unaware about the content of the parcel, they received it without any comments. But when I send parcel, I prepare 2 copies of Declaration Sheet, one with parcel and one for courier. This helped me to claim the same from courier. Also mention delivery notification with your all list like:
“Must check parcel contents as per attached declaration sheet before signing on POD. No claim will be entertained for damage or partly missing objects”.
Yet for genuine cases like you I try to adjust the same with courier as I am their customer, so for real cases they are bound to adjust. You have to convince the courier. And let customer happy with the transaction.
Again there is a possibility of False Claim. You have to detect that from the buyer’s reputation, asking them about the parcel state, condition of packing box etc. etc. and show them the rule you have mentioned in Delivery Notification. Generally in genuine case buyer make a phone call or send email instantly.
I use paper tape instead of Brown tape for sealing the parcel, tampering the parcel is not easy here. 1. Generally couriers do not have such tape. 2. It takes time to dry.
In case of costly item go for insured delivery.

Here below the benefit of having an eBay Shop(e-shop).
[As posted by entertainmentstore on the thread
http://forums.ebay.in/thread.jspa?threadID=500000351]
I strongly feel one should start off with his store on eBay... you can avail of several benefits such as..:
- You get your own URL
- You can promote your products via your own product pages by using Listing headers and other several options
- You can collect your customer database by asking them to subscribe to your store mailing list.
- One can send mailers from your account to the subscribers of your store... This would be exclusive your store mailer where you select what to showcase and what not. You can send them to your mailing list. eBay gives first 100 mails every month free.
- If you are creative enough you can actually design your own store... You can showcase what you want on your store by using various promotional tools (free of cost)
- You can have your own search engine within the store wherein if a buyer searches for a product it will search only within your store.
- You can create your own categories and showcase your products in the same.
- One can create promotional flyers and insert them along with your parcels for your product promotions.
- One can list their listings for a period of 30/60/90 days or GTC 'good till cancell' thru store listings. Even you can active/inactive vacation period when you are on vacation.
There might be many more benefits that one gets by subscribing to an advanced shop. All the above features come along with the basic shop subscription.
Hope the above tips given by Raheel will answer your query.
