as i have been cheated from the seller nitin_100 of amount more than 35000.00 as i have won three items from him the items are

1. 22ct Gold Chain (item no. 5070786110) for a amount of 3483.00
2. Apple ipod 60Gb with photo (item no. 5846320892) for a amount of 15300.00
3. Sony Ericcsion P910i (item no 5846905265) for a amount of 16800.00

so the total amount i have sent him is 35583.00
and i have sent the DD one week before only to him in the name of shakawat hossain as per the details printed in the ebay transaction but a person nitin mailed me and informed to send the dd in the favor of shakawat hossain as we both are partners but after i send the dd i called nitin informing to send the material but he started refusing that he has not met shakawat hossain and started avoiding and even i have sent him many mails and calls he is not responding to either of one. and one day i called on his given no that is 09830254883 and a person by name biresh lifetd the phone and said that he don;t know about the ebay dealings as nitin is his brother and even he said that he don't know who is shakawat hossain. so they are playing with the customers. i want ebay to look after this case seriously as i have been cheated for a big amount so please see that i get my money back as now i am not interested to take the material.

Thank you everyone for taking the time and effort to post your experiences. You've just saved me from being defrauded of Rs.11750. I won an auction for a camcorder from kosher_100 which is the new avatar of Shakawat Hossain. The bank details match exactly with what all of you have posted.

I tried to call him on his mobile number but no one responded. I then took a look at his feedback - 100% for 9 items. I then saw each of the 9 items and guess what - all of them were Rs.80-Rs.100 sales of game CDs.

I then did a search for "shakawat hossain kolkata" on Google and came up to this forum.

Nice work guys - this is the only way genuine buyers can protect themselves. Can't depend on eBay to do everything.

eBay policies need to change if they want to protect their own reputation. How about systems such as PaisaPay required for new sellers, and only one bank account per ID?

Thanks once again, and I hope this helps future buyers.

ebay never helps it always support frauds my case is an example.I paid thro paisapay the amount Rs 3100 during FEB 2006 sofor not recd item or money back the seller informed returned the money to paisapay and ask paisapay.
Paisapay says they are not received .Ebay asks me to get the phone number and address details of seller how can a fraud give this details to me.Dear friends dont go for online shopping the material which you are asking may be available near to your house itself with cheaper price than ebay. The ebay not having any details of seller which is ridiculous. The response from ebay very very poor they says for each mail it will take several days to reply from this you can understand whether there is seller or ebay himself creating this type of fraud sellers.Hard earned goes to frauds and e bay helps them that is my final conclusion and advise dont go to online shop and everybody try to expose this ebay fraud and close their business.

I think E-bay should open an account and ask seller to deposit some money and the same could be refunded at the end of the year. In such cases E-bay can directly pay to the buyer who has lost money because the seller was a fraud. Also Seller's would then not be in a position to commit fraud as they know that the buyer would be compensated from their deposit amount. If the amount is finished after paying to the buyer, e-bay can still stop seller from selling because he would have to pay fresh deposit before selling new items. What are your opinions. Do let us all know?

No, it won't work out. Ebay is a place where u can start ur business without any investment. If u ask seller's to pay deposit, you should also charge an entry fee or registration fee for buyer's too. So that we can avoid dubious bidders or buyers like nigerians.

I think Ebay has a very CASUAL and JUVENILE approach towards fraud . Seller should never be allowed to register without verifying their bank account / Credit card / address /phone number.

Ebay should also take the following steps.

1) Don't allow sellers with 0 ratings to sell high value items.

2) Don't allow buyers with 0 ratings to buy high value items.

In both cases the buyer will then be protected from fraud.

I really think that India being a growing market is a hot target for Ecommerce fraud and unless Ebay takes steps to ensure buyer /seller safety it will soon become the F-Commerce (Fraud commerce) site .

Hi sigmabazar,

Verification of information and account details are good but I think what is more important is that eBay must build an image that they take active actions to put the frauds behind the bars. These frauds cheat lacs, often thru same Bank Accounts and come back again and again as they know that they are likely to face just a suspension and no legal complications. Itโ€™s the new buyers who get cheated the most and everyday we are loosing buyers directly and indirectly.

I had posted something similar on the workshop regarding the trust and safety http://forums.ebay.in/thread.jspa?threadID=600000470&start=0 .
The answer was that eBay is serious about law enforcement and do take several actions. I was given the following link http://pages.ebay.in/securitycentre/law_enforcement.html to refer.

On this link eBay has pledged to co-operate with the Law enforcement agencies of India, if approached by them !!!! I am not aware of the laws of US or Europe but as per our laws, they are bound to do that. It does not make any real sense to mention that as a preventive measure of fraud. As per the link it seems that itโ€™s the onus of just the defrauded buyers to put up all the complains and take all the toils to report. I feel its not practical in the Indian scenario to expect that all the buyers will have enough time, and money to from court to court for years to get back even a few thousand Rupees. If eBay really wants to put forward a message that they are against the frauds then they should have a mechanism to report all proven frauds to the competent law enforcement departments rather than waiting for those to approach them.

We all know that almost all of our Law enforcement agencies are plagued with corruption. But regularly reporting such frauds to them can still help. The corrupted officials often take up cases just to extract some money from the cheaters. Even such an immoral activity helps to curb down the repetitive frauds.

I hope eBay will reorient itself to handle the Indian frauds in a much more proactive, effective and better manner in near future. .
