fake menory in 5in1 MP3/MP4 players on e-bay

   As a genuine buyer (I am a Info Tech Engg-Software and hardware)its my duty to tell all of u that 
all the 5in1/7in1/8in1 MP3/MP4 players have fake memory,there is actually 128MB memory which is 
virtually showing 256MB/512MB/1GB/2GB...etc for detail read the following.



   The memory issue is caused by a hardware problem, it is NOT fixable with firmware!!! 



   It is caused by the chinese manufactures covering up their mistakes of ordering the 
wrong chips and formatting them to look bigger!!!

 

  Open your player: look for the memory chip 

it should be marked HYNIX (or samsung but I have not heard of any problems with them yet!): 



check the REAL size of your chip, with this table:

    * K9x1Gxxxxx = 1Gb (GigaBit) = 128MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x2Gxxxxx = 2Gb (GigaBit) = 256MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x4Gxxxxx = 4Gb (GigaBit) = 512MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x8Gxxxxx = 8Gb (GigaBit) = 1024MB (MegaByte) 

    * (1 Byte = 8 bits)

 The ONLY way to fix this problem is to solder a new memory chip in to your player and re flashing your original firmware

I have been pointing out the same to eBay on other fora.

I was in the process of importing these MP3 / MP4 products directly for sale on eBay. However the prices on eBay were less than the FOB prices quoted by the Manufacturers. The reason being that they were offerring genuine memory and not these useless software upgraded memories which are selling on eBay.in.

Now how can a genuine importer sell his products on such a platform where there is no control on fakes?

I have kept on hold my plans to import genuine products like eBay cleans the site of these fake products and the fraud sellers who knowingly are selling them.

This is high time that some real action ia taken against these kind of products being sold.

These products if genuinely sold are much high priced than being sold by many sellers on ebay.

The Mp3 players are available and sold by us with 1 year warranty which very few sellers do. The fact remains our prices are always more than the sellers selling these third rate products and that to without offering 1 year warranty to the customer.

This issue has been raised quite often and We hope some stringent steps are taken for proper verification of sellers eg many sellers sell their product without valid Tin no. which is madatory for selling any product. we bear the loss of sales due to these products which are being sold on Ebay.in. the customer is now losing faith in buying on Ebay.

PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE DO SOMETHING.

eBay must have some controls, but I doubt if the T&S dept of eBay will care about those. .

Hi Everybody

It’s really good to see such post by a Hardware Expert. This information will helps to detect fake product by a member. But I have doubted how many buyers can follow this guideline to check his/her product whether that is fake or genuine.

For the last 2 weeks, I am also selling MP3 Player. But I am not able to verify in such a way. And I am sure more than 90% user check their IT accessories by connecting it with the PC. Not only that, device remain sealed, which need to be broken on opening.

From software point of view I have one suggestion to check its genuineness, use such device with heterogeneous operating system – like Windows, Linux, MAC OS etc. I have done so.

After formatting if their sizes decrease, it does not mean it’s a fake. Then all the branded HDD will be fake. Can we get full capacity (40GB or 80GB or more) of a Branded HDD when we format it using Windows 98 or XP? Definitely not. Its does not mean that HDD is fake. But when we purchase such HDD, it comes with Factory Formatted 40GB or 80GB capacity.

One more points to be keep in mind that, extra care should be taken when transferring file from PC to Flash Drive, that is don’t disconnect device before completing file transfer (copy) as long as data transfer symbol (arrow mark) is displaying. If anyone do so, it will cause decrease free space without any FAT (File Allocation Table) entry. Mean that space will be unusable but occupied. This unused but occupied space can be easily recovered by using disk checking utility like Scandisk, which will convert those lost chains to files, which after simple deleting will free up the spaces.

clarification regarding TIN:

most sellers here are pressing on the need for a TIN number. let me clarify:

there are a few professional sellers - TIN Needed
a few non professionals who sell certain stuff they do not need - old TV, or Car etc - NO need of TIN
a few sellers who dop not have sales of 200,000 per year - No need of TIN.

I would request members only post here facts that they are fully aware of.

I bought a 4gb MP4 player, very similar to ipod one.

As I synchronize it with my pc and download folders, my windows explorer shows it has done it successfully and I can see the new folders/files inside. (it shows 4gb of space, and I have around 2gb of mp3 files inside)

But when I turn the mp4 on, go to the local folder, I cannot see any of the files I´ve downloaded.

Its strange, because I first downloaded some mp3 files/folders and it worked ok. After this time, I tryed to download other ones and this thing happens !

There are some folders I downloaded that I can see thru windows explorer, but inside of it, in spite of music, there are many folders with strange characters that cannot be erased. Its "eating" memory but without working !! And more...I erased other files but the memory free space did not change anything !!!

One more problem, to finish here....Sometimes I plug the usb cable and it synchronizes correctly...others no...I have to reboot the pc in order to do it...

I´ve already done what skyshopindia recommended, but did not work.

What should I do? Do you know what is the problem with it?

Its firmware is: B204G2V1 from 2006/06/20 and the flash memo is a samsung one.

Dear skyshopindia,

I accept that the listed HDD size is slightly more than that of actual. But the Issue is selling 512MB drive as 1 GB. I have brought a 1 GB flash based MP3 Player. When first plugged, It's shown as 1 GB. But when files are copied It doesen't accept more than 500 MB. So I formatted the Drive and checked again..! then the Size is showing as 484 MB as the total size. I returned the Product and the seller accepted it and refunded the money without any Protest. The point to be noted is even in the so called SEALED pack, It's mentioned as 1 GB!
