fake menory in 5in1 MP3/MP4 players on e-bay

   As a genuine buyer (I am a Info Tech Engg-Software and hardware)its my duty to tell all of u that 
all the 5in1/7in1/8in1 MP3/MP4 players have fake memory,there is actually 128MB memory which is 
virtually showing 256MB/512MB/1GB/2GB...etc for detail read the following.



   The memory issue is caused by a hardware problem, it is NOT fixable with firmware!!! 



   It is caused by the chinese manufactures covering up their mistakes of ordering the 
wrong chips and formatting them to look bigger!!!

 

  Open your player: look for the memory chip 

it should be marked HYNIX (or samsung but I have not heard of any problems with them yet!): 



check the REAL size of your chip, with this table: 



 You can find out the real size of your SAMSUNG chip here: 



    * K9x1Gxxxxx = 1Gb (GigaBit) = 128MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x2Gxxxxx = 2Gb (GigaBit) = 256MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x4Gxxxxx = 4Gb (GigaBit) = 512MB (MegaByte) 

    * K9x8Gxxxxx = 8Gb (GigaBit) = 1024MB (MegaByte) 

    * (1 Byte = 8 bits) 



You can find out the real size of your HYNIX chip here: 

    * HY27UH081G2M = 1Gb (GigaBit) = 128MB (MegaByte) 

    * HY27UH082G2M = 2Gb (GigaBit) = 256MB (MegaByte)

    * (1 Byte = 8 bits) 

 The ONLY way to fix this problem is to solder a new memory chip in to your player and re flashing your original firmware

Hi All,

This is a very good post as it helps in understanding the technical factors of such electronic items easily. I agree sellers on ebay are selling the compressed memory, but I donot think it is wrong if the sellers are mentioning the same in their listings.

I beleive tha it is not affordable for everyone to buy the genuine players as they cost more than 4 times these compressed ones. For example, a 1 GB original Transcend MP3 player is being sold on eBay for Rs.4100, a 1 GB player of these chinese ones is sold for just Rs.1000 !!! 😮

Also, these players do give the specified storage capacity till they are formatted, which means they are usable to the capacity mentioned. Nowadays people want to flash their new gadgets, college students, young executives would love to buy such products as it is in their budget too. They just cannot afford to buy the branded ones. 😞

In India, even rich people donot buy branded Atta which is costlier buy 3-4 rupees, even though they know it is more hygenic. They prefer to buy wheat and then get the atta made at a local flour mill. This is the mentality of Indian consumers, and there is nothing wrong with it either... B-)

I beleive that the seller is doing something wrong only if he is keeping the buyer in the dark about the compressed memory. If he has mentioned it clearly in the listing , then it is the buyer's choice what he wants to buy... the branded but costly ones, or the compressed and cheaper ones. 🙂

If one were at all to agree with the post of blow out dealz, than it must be of mandatory that the seller mentions the actual capacity in the listing, so that a buyer can make an informed decission.

You cannot sell an half kg product calling it 1 kg.

This is amounting to fraud.

If a seller who is genuine wants to sell it as such he should mention that the capacity is compressed and also mention the actual physical non compressed capacity.

Hello, Its true. The 4gb Player has 2gb in real. Unfortunately i needed 2 nights of playing around to discover this. At some moment when i formatted the memory with a hp format utility it went down to the real capacity of 2gb. Then,later i found this posting and a lot of reports in general internet talking about such fakes. Besides that my player was coming from Honkong against the auction that told London so i had to pay 27.- € custom taxes, and a wrong charger was packed. Makes 90.- € alltogether. In Germany i get a 2gb for 50.- €.
At the end I payed double ! ... with half memory !
Sellers like this should be forced to closer their shop ! This is like criminal in my opinion. Must say that this was my first bad expierience with buying in ebay. But now i will be more careful. And if the seller does not make any good offer for some pay back i will report this to ebay and more instances.

Unfortunately I bought a fake 4MB Mp4 player from the seller e-britain, plase don't trust him. the chip inside is a SAMSUNG K9G8G08UOM

When I connect the player to my computer, it seems like a 4MB memory from my computer. Once I upload more than 1MB of information to the player, it stops to work.

Do you know how can I format the player so it exibit the real 1MB memory???

Dear All, its simple In india even a seller who is selling saree & gift items starts selling electronics item without having any technical background . Its not their Fault their supplier provides them remarked or compressed memory items . In ebay foreign sites you can notice seller has expertise in particular field ..being a technical expert on www.fixya.com I handles 12~15 problems every day on portable Audio/video, computer peripherals , communication equipments etc ..ebay should discourage sellers who only know selling & exactly dont know what he or she is selling . Simply ebay.in should not be made market place like KAROL BAGH OR LAJPAT RAI MARKET WHERE MOST OF THE SELLERS ARE ILLITERATE & DONT HAVE ANY TECHNICAL BACKGROUND .

and dear @ npconline.in, please add PALIKA BAZAR, DELHI in your list also. where a you can see many person selling 32GB "or" 64 GB Pen Drives for Just Rs 150/- with Top Brand names printed on it.
