Tried to settle things 'amicably' with seller and now I am in a fix

I am new to ebay. On the 28th day after buying a camera, I returned it to the seller, after having a discussion with him as quality of the item was in question. I did not open a case against him, as we were settling the dispute amicably. It took him a while to send the camera to the main company and have it checked and asked me time for it which i gave him, as i was under the impression that my receipt of shipping the item before 30 days is proof enough, if something goes wrong later. The seller calls me and explains that the particular series of camera itself has turned out to be faulty and the company is buying them back from his shop. So i demanded him a refund, and he tried to sell me another camera. This freaked me out. I called Ebay, and a rather rude lady asserted to me I no longer have any protection as it is more than 30 days and i have not filed a 'complaint'. I contacted the seller again and discussed the matter with him after which he agreed that he would give me a refund in 2-3 days after checking with his accounts team (i wonder if that is necessary) but I dont fully trust that. I am in a fix and I have decided that it would be really foolish to make any purchase above 500 from Ebay. Who could answer this?

Hi Plsy2k,

Have you contacted Ebay and spoken about the Ebay Guarantee?
Ebay markets its website using this guarantee to attract buyers. I am not sure if you have spoken about this with customer reps!

Cheers

Yes, i spoke about ebay guarantee to the customer care, but with no avail. This lady started blaming me for not reporting the matter to Ebay before 30 days. But i didnt report it to them only because the seller was cooperative, and the deal happened to take more than 30 days. She was so very rude.

I feel like an absolute fool for blindly trusting ebay with 7200 rupees. I will never repeat this mistake ever again.

Now, I also learned aboyut another 'clause' about ebay guarantee. It does not provide any protection whatsoever to a product that is replaced by the seller, in case a replacement is requested. I could not believe it!!

I say Ebay is very very unsafe, inspite of the 'protection' it boasts.

Dear plsy2k

At the outset pls accept our apologies for the inconvenience that has been caused and we assure you that the required feedback has been passed on to Customer service agent who interacted with you.

We would like to inform you that any purchase made on eBay is covered under eBay Guarantee* however the same can be claimed only within 30 days from the date of transaction. We regret to inform you that since this purchase has crossed 30 days we would not be in a position to extend the eBay Guarantee* option for this purchase.

Once again we regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your feedback.

Regards

seema,

I do not expect eBay to help me here in the first place. Because the system of Ebay is not conducive to safe buying of anything that is aove 500, and I learnt it the hard way. Thank you very much.

@ vkrm2000

I have to agree with you. I keep ebay as my last option now. The customer care is pathetic.
