This is about the stupid eBay India phone verification.
I changed my id or even my password, they HAVE TO CALL ME UP and I am expected to rattle off my user name, address etc. so that it can be verified.
And that is during prime time of the day, when you are busy. Whereas any sensible person would think verification done by SMS or other non-intrusive ways would be preferable.
And if you don't then the lady who thinks she is teacher talking to kindergarten kids threatens: Fine then! Your account will be suspended and that is that. Talk about coercion!
I will also be forced to coerce eBay with non-payment and I will go to great lengths, if this continues.
A few pertinent questions:
1. Even my bank does not phone me, if I change my password. They do care about intruding into my privacy, I should think! And this eBay thing is so piddly, as though I need to be protected from myself.
2. Verification can be done by SMS or other non-intrusive ways. But they won't have it. And the lady who calls up has no clue, and goes on to justify how her call is the call I must answer or she is going to bust me.
3. If this is my account, allow me to set preferences. And I have told this to umpteen execs who call, I can verify once, but I don't want your "protection" after that. There is just no option to set any preferences. In fact, this obnoxious lady disabled my phone number, so next time I go to buy an item, it says I have to put in my tel number - the old number does not work anymore. To what end is this?
4. I am not a seller or don't make money on eBay. In fact, it is the other way around - eBay makes money off me. So it might be wise to keep me good humoured. Otherwise, you will get the side of me that will needlessly make sure it hurts you. I guarantee that.
5. So if it is MY account, I want to have control. I win, you win. If I think this is a nuisance ....
6. The whole thing is quite ridiculous, because when my account got disabled, it wouldn't allow me to BUY. I don't know what could go wrong, when I am trying to pay by PaisaPay. But it allows me to delete my account! Amazing amount of thought you have put into streamlining your procedures. So there is a risk that an unauthorised person might be paying money and getting things, whereas, to delete the account is quite safe!
7. eBay should use its man power to address real issues with being more interactive for people with complaints and not pointless verification. Once verified, that is enough. The KYC is also OK. But I cannot do it all the time.
8. I got calls after almost 9 months of a problem with money transfer. And the eBay robots you call at their call centre are all morons - they won't give you a phone number to a manager -despite asking - I am not allowed to give that. Please put some sensible people - not automatons.
9. And look, I am escalating this problem. I am going to write to computer magazines and other people who would know - to check up on these. So either shape up or ship out - like VSNL.
I will catch you guys later.
