Counters - Are they reliable indicators?

I am inserting ebay "Counter" in my listings. The moment I list, the counter shows 4, sometimes 6!! How can so many people see the listing within a few seconds of listing? Something funny? Does ebay want me to believe that my listed item is "a hot selling item?" !! Can somebody/ebay answer me?

Think of it as a 75 percent reliable thing
if there are 100 visits
think that only 60 came to your page
still not totally unreliable :)

Is there anybody in ebay watching this thread?
When everything in ebay is clearcut, straightforward and well designed, why should the Counters alone be somewhat off the truth? Would it not be better if ebay asks its designers to correct any bug in the design of counters?
