Thanks Ebay for the the new initiative taken and we are sure the buyers will have more confidence in buying from Ebay now.

The sellers would be on their toes to give give good response on phone to the buyers.

The buyers who complain that the sellers phone is not available or contact information of seller is not available would be things of past.

Now why are many sellers opposing an Optional feature?.
Are we opposing just for the heck of it ??
have we made a habit ... oppose all changes ??
Here's a simple announcement that contact details MAY be posted.
Its not MUST be posted .

If one finds merit in posting details then go ahead and post or if one finds it not useful ... carry on as it is at present .

Members opposing this move give an impression that if he/she wont post details ,
he/she is not happy with others posting their details.

Do none of the members see a positive streak that Ebay india is being seen as a promise,
Indian sellers and buyers are now recognised as mature
and we are being placed at par with the developed Ebay sites ??

Nobody has so much time to oppose just for the heck of it.

Do you think Indian Buyers and Sellers are well tuned to the ebay culture ?

With Contact information available there would be more tendency to negotiate outside ebay ..... which is not good for the Market Place in the long run. .

The point raised by runalaila is that it is not mandatory to list your contact details and he is right.

Ebay has this facility in other countries and the sellers are doing well there.

So if we get the benefits of these facilities in india, why such a hue and cry.

if ebay has implemented such a policy they must have weighed all the pros and cons and we are sure it would be beneficial to all the sellers.

Whatever policies Ebay does implement we sellers first make lot of noise and then go along with the changes.

So guys lets make the most of the benefits comming our way and work towards making profits for ourselves, rather than critising each and every move of Ebay.

While we were initiating this change, the top most thought in our mind was to improve the buyer & seller experience on the site by removing the friction and help users to communicate better with each other. We feel that this will not only help us provide a better experience to our users, but will also result in increased business for our sellers.

Some of you have voiced the concern that Indian buyers are new to the online buying process hence might not be aware about the importance of completing the transaction on eBay.

To address the concern, for all those sellers who are taking advantage of this policy change it would be mandatory to include the "Safe Buying" banner in their listing description. This will help in increasing awareness and the importance of buying on eBay to be protected under Buyer Protection Program. We will be closely monitoring the adoption of this policy change and the strict enforcement of the violation to ensure the buyers are protected.

I agree that the privacy concerns are very valid; however, it is optional features which sellers can leverage to grow their eBay business. It is a trade off, and the choice lies in hands of individual sellers.

On the concerns of eBay loosing the business, we believe that our sellers are mature enough to understand the importance of transactions taking place on eBay and appreciate the trust factor that eBay brings in. We believe most sellers will not indulge in activity that can possibly harm eBay and their long term business.

Still some concerns would always be there
which are a part and parcel of the online business .
but at least auto pickings of contact details would be avoided following JF's suggestion

Hi,
This a good move by ebay. There are some sellers, specially new sellers, who came to ebay just for cheating. They only provide email address and a mobile number as their address. Many buyers after making payment, keep them calling but are unable to contact them. Neither they get item nor money. This move at least will be helpfull for buyer to decide the genunity of seller. Though ebay sale is likely to decrease by this move but there are other factors also responsible for decreased sale. I think the buyer will buy from ebay if he has trust and get good price. This move will enhance trust but other ebay policies are making item cost higher. Unless ebay makes policies that makes selling on ebay cheaper, the over all ebay sale can not be increased.
