This particular item is listed at a price of more than Rs.19,000 while it is available for less than Rs. 12,000 in retail store.
Does ebay do a check on such listings ?
It is likely that some buyer falls for such listings and overpays for these items.
Even for those who know the right price, such listings are a waste of time.

Probably not, because then the item is most likely to be fake.

Thanks for your reply, but rather than addressing the issue I raised, you are digressing into a silly argument.

@amarshali,
Ebay auction may start at 1 buck and end up at 1 buck.
It may end up at 19k also.
You are ignorant, and calling others silly.
I would request you not to use bad language like a man of the gutter.
This is a civilised place and meant for respectable people.Dont spoil the atmosphere here.
And dont post any meaningless comment. If the price is high,it wont sell.If it is low,it will sell.
So,who is being silly?

Dear victoria_edward,
FYI, the item was a Buy-It-Now item, so no question of auction.
Since when did 'silly' become bad language? You seem kind and respectable enough to mention 'gutter' though.
>>"If the price is high,it wont sell.If it is low,it will sell."
What a wonderful argument! If you don't want to sell it by charging exorbitantly, why list it in the first place and waste buyers' time?
And if it sells at that high price,a buyer is being cheated. Do you have a solution for that ?
I was giving feedback to ebay team, and maybe hoping that some sellers would understand the situation. You don't seem to understand, or don't want to.
Thanks for writing anyway.

Firstly you should give the item number/description of the item so that others can verify the item and your statement that item sold in eBay is such overpriced. In my view no seller is so foolish that he will create a listing with such overprice. A seller has to spend lot of time and money to create a listing. He is here for selling and not for closure of listing without any buyer. A buyer of 19K is not so fool as you think that he will buy without verification since there are competetion in eBay itself between sellers. You may be overlooking certain additional features which is there in the eBay item and not there in retail sale.

I support @amarshali for this....

i have seen a lot of items which are very much priced away from the market prices.......

buyers may many times fell in to that since..most of the buyers buying on ebay might not have time to verify them in market.....

and Yes if you are getting an item for 1k which its market price is 10K ...its totally fake.... NO ONE NEVER EVER sells their items for that much lower price....except in the case that its not worth a penny in keeping it with him...

I am not against ebay but some people who want shell of their hands even its not worth the product.....

Hi,

There are many reasons a product may be priced higher than normal.

1) Seller may have old inventory which he have bought at a higher price and does not want to book a loss.

2) Seller has created the listing ages ago and has not revised it and keeps relisting it every week or every month as the case maybe it is just costs him 50 paise per listing.

3) In some products the offline margins are too low but online selling costs are much higher and hence the product may be more expensive than in offline stores. There are many buyers who do not have access to retail stores due to:

a) They are living abroad and want to gift to someone in India.

b) Military personel posted in remote locations. Simillarly people working in remote factories.

c) People living in small towns / villages not having access to many new technology and liftestyle products.

ebaY is a marketplace and it does not play a role in determining pricing. It is upto to the buyer to get the best price for the product he wants to buy. Yes, certain users have raised a concern that ebaY should have a MRP policy and should check that products are not sold over MRP and thus violating law of the land. However ebay is still to formulate any such policy.

Hi Pareshwins,
Visibility is so good now that 3 year old BINs are getting sold.
To strike a bargain, one must go for auctions.
A seller can sell at a lower price.
This is called clearence sell.
It may be distress sell also, which is done to recover capital.
You need patience to strike a bargain.Ebay is primarily an auction site.So eBay will never impose a restriction like that. That is not eBay policy. There will always be a grey zone in such matters.
An old man may not always be a silly man.He can be wiser than many.
Thanx,
Truly,
Amitava
