getting back to some of the questions that have been asked earlier !

5. What is the documentation needed to ship single items? Who does this documentation, the seller or the courier company?

Ans. One needs only an invoice stating the exact description of the goods meant to be shipped.

The documentation that requires to be carried out to ship single items is required to be provided by the shipper. The express/courier company may however assist in providing relevant formats or declarations wherever necessary.

Is there any restriction on items to be sent from India and in the Buyer country? Where can one get more detailed information?

Ans. Yes, there exists restrictions in terms of items that can be exported out of India. These commodities are listed in the Shedule 2 of the ITC ( International Trade Classification ) HS ( Harmonisation System) list.
This list can be downloaded form the official website of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade at http://dgft.delhi.nic.in

However, for detailed import regulations for a Buyer located in another country, one has to refer to the restrictions either posted on the individual country website or such information is available with the consulate/embassies. The Chambers of Commerce in various towns and cities can also help you in sourcing such information.

I feel that there is a lot of effort and time required in single shipment and if one is sending many such shipments in a month, a lot of time and effort will get wasted in handling this? What is a seller’s time and effort in a single shipment.

Ans. Yes, we do understand that there is considerable effort and time required to send a single shipment. However this effort is an initial effort and one time effort and the following may work as a guideline to carry out such export activity –

a. Obtain an IEC number
b. Meet with your local bank who will ask you to open necessary foreign exchange account and provide you with an insight of reporting Foreign Exchange under Reserve bank of India Guidelines.
c. Try to obtain the HS (Harmonisation System) Number for your product using UPS website or any other relevant portal offering such information. The HS number is a standard International Tariff Classification code number and is used by various Customs and Cross Border regulatory Agencies of various Countries to structure their duty tariff. ( HS code for Cotton Women’s Skirt is 61041200 and that for Silk Women’s Skirt is 61041910 )

Therefore the initial effort is to get items a and b right. As far as item c is concerned it is easier to get it right as there are various ways one can reference them.

Dear committed_seller

Sales Tax and Vat are non-issues as far as exports is concerned. However they would be required when the shipments originate from interior areas of the country and would go on to a export gateway like Delhi or Mumbai, wherein the local Municipal/ State authorities would require such details to facilitate clearance of your shipments without chargeing them any octroi or sales tax.

Hi

More information on Jewelry

UPS will accept jewelry shipments internationally provided the maximum value per package does not exceed 500 USD (this limitation does NOT include costume jewelry, which can be shipped with a value up to 50,000 USD per package). Shipments of jewelry over 500 USD can be shipped as long as no single package is valued over 500 USD.

Classifications
Jewelry Objects of precious metal often set with gems and worn for personal adornment or decorative objects made for the adornment of the body, usually, but not always, of materials such as gold precious stones that have a high intrinsic value.
Costume Jewelry Jewelry designed for wear with current fashions and usually made of inexpensive materials.
Watches If a watch contains more than 50% of precious metal (gold, silver, platinum), or any precious stones (diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire), the watch is considered to be a piece of jewelry instead of a timepiece and it will be subject to the jewelry stipulation.
