VAT Not added automatically in Checkout

Hello eBay Community Members !

I am using the VAT Table in the preference section of My eBay.
I have charged VAT as 4% for all states in India.

But when the buyer checkouts, the VAT displayed to them is 0%. Then later when i ask the buyers for the 4% VAT, they mention that they didnt see anywhere mentioned about the VAT in the checkout page.

Please suggest, how shall i resolve this issue as its sums up to a great loss for me.

Thanks.

Welcome to the big bad world of ebay.

Where basic site defects are not rectified even after two years.

This problem occurs when the name of state inputed is of different spelling than the one in ebay database.

ebaY cares too hoots for its sellers, let them loose money! why take the effort to correct such minor glitches.

Simple suggestion of changing of one line of code is pending for over 2 years.

Hello Devesh,

It's just not the matter of VAT being missed out.

One cannot charge different rates of 4% and 12.5% .... because once the percentage is selected, any Item Listed or Relisted after that .... would have the said VAT percentage charged automatically.

This provision of charging VAT is a boon for many who find it a convenient (to show it as legal ) way to misuse and loot innocent Buyers. They may not be in actual depositing the same to the Tax Authorities.

I have stopped charging VAT and have included it in the Price of the Items. .

Some sellers find this VAT tool a easy way in increase their profit. They charge innocent buyers 10% instead of 4% (in computer products) and also donot supply any invoice (or fake invoice) to buyers. In this way they cheat our government & buyers. Buyers reliase it too late and are fooled easily.

Thats the right way ! Even we give genuine invoices. But ebay has no system to check that all sellers who charge VAT extra really has a VAT TIN numbers or are they registered with the Tax authorities.

This is a loop hole in ebay compared to other online sites where such things are looked first before a vendor can sell.

As this is a Known issue with ebay, its 2 years down line with no solution. But the cases have reduced in recent times.

Assemblerz,

I have given some suggestions to ebaY earlier regarding this issue.

1) Sellers should be asked to input their TIN numbers before the VAT functionality becomes available to them. The TIN numbers should be visible on every listing where VAT is sought to be collected.

2) ebaY should check if the TIN numbers inputed are bonafide - TIN nos can be verified online. Atleast for Maharastra.

3) When ever a buyer pays for a product where VAT is collected, a message should go to the buyer. Please check if you receive a Tax Invoice containing the following TIN number xxxxx. If you do not receive the said Tax Invoice with the TIN number, please report to ebaY and win Rs.500/- (a practice followed in most Fast Food Chains). ebaY should disallow such sellers from using VAT functionality immediately.

With the new PaisaPay norms and KYC where you are asking for identity proof and address proof, I think it should be mandatory that you ask for TIN registration proof before seller can charge VAT.

The more simple alternative is to do away with the VAT functionality.

I 100% support veedeedirect. If ebay is so much in verification of bank details and KYC, they should do their own KYC of sellers.
Any one can become a gr8 seller on ebay and sell grey market stuff to innocent buyers who reliase it too late that they were fooled. Many buyers dont even know what is a Tax invoice and are very happy to receive a fake invoice. ebay should do something for VAT registrations if a seller wants to charge VAT or there will be no difference between a ordinary seller and a genuine seller. My suggestion is that a powerseller has to be atleast verified with VAT registrations.
