Dear Ebayers
I am increasingly getting sucked into the whole Ebay thing, nevertheless I really do enjoy Ebay and all its stands for, it’s a fun place to be as a seller and a buyer.
Here is something that I have seen time time again and this may have been brought to light by other members, but I do think its a valid point to make.
Recently I was going to buy a new Canon Camera from a seller who has been trading on Ebay for 7 years. I am not naming names lets just take this as an example. The Canon was new and expensive enough! Their feed back was varied with many customer complaints but HEY ! 7 years of trading on line and only 67 NEG feedbacks Hard to say who is in the wrong.
My concern is this, I don’t use eBay’s pre set templates to sell my items from, I am lucky enough to understand the basics of html code and implement my own html templates to sell from, I host all my images on my own designated server except for the small gallery picture. I design and build my own selling templates as of when I feel the need.
This is my concern: I found that some sellers cleverly embed image Gifs in replacement for text and code as displayed and listed under their Selling Policies and all important information relating to customer guarantees , warranty information and delivery of item costs I could go on.
If you buy from a seller who uses this technique of embedded Gifs in replacement of text code i.e. html code as used on their auction pages. This means that a seller can remove this information from the auction page at any given time during or after an agreed sale has taken place. I am not saying that all sellers who adopt this approach to customizing and building their own html templates our dishonest or will be dishonest or will removed information from an auction template in such away. I am hypercritical but thought it was an interesting point to make. Next time you decide to buy something of high value from a seller. Scroll down to their selling polices and just see if you can copy their text, if you can only select an image Gif then I have proved my point. I would like to know if eBay can and do keep a copy of the original sellers auction page in the outset of any dispute that may occur between seller and buyer. Of course if you upload a custom template with html and links, ebay can only keep a copy of the html code and not your image links. I may be stating the obvious here but then again I may not!
Thanks for reading this I hope that I explain my point and that it doesn't worry you too much... just an observation.
Have fun out their, always read the venders selling policies before you buy, check their feedback rating and ask questions we don’t bite and the majority of us are all very honest so have fun out there.
