Seller of the Month - Where to find ? Unfair treatments for new sellers !!!

Dear eBay,

Some time back, everyone can see Seller of the month in some of the pages, it used to be shown as buttons. Right now i dont see them at all. Also what is the expected performance to get seller of the month status ?

Right now there are sellers copy the button when they were seller of the month, and they show the same for long time in their shops like they are always seller of the month. It is unfair that he cannot be permanently seller of the month from jan 2004 until today ?. Can you please include Month and Year in the button so that everyone know he is seller for that particular month only.

Can you also encourage the new sellers having good number of feedbacks, sales, though they are not yet qualified for PowerSellers.

Another unfair treatment by eBay is Top picks. The rules says items amount Rs.199 and below are qualified for this list, but item value more than Rs.300-Rs.400 also in the list. Also the list is always almost same and same sellers only there.

And another unfair treatment is, in the ebay biggest shops list. If some seller list down 4000 items, he is included in the list, regardless how many he sell from his shop. Sellers having few feedbacks/month with huge listing comes in the list. Seller like me having only 200-250 item in the listing having 30-40 feedbacks a month is no the list, it is because i dont have such a big volume listing in the shop. This is also another unfair treatment for the new sellers.

Look like there is no way for the new sellers can be encouraged by eBay.

You had quite a few queries in your posting.
Let me respond to your questions one by one.

“Seller of the Month” was a promotion going on for a specific period of time. Since the promotion is over the banners for the same have also been removed from the site.

We shall inform community members about the promotion & its criteria (which might be revised) when we launch it again.


We welcome your suggestion of including the month & year in the banner.


The criteria for Power Sellers ensures that only serious sellers get that title (& may lose it if they are lax in any month)
They also might have gone through similar tribulations as new sellers in building up their reputation on eBay.
In the interest of the community, it is not fair to ignore the hard work put in by Power Sellers to obtain & retain the title.

For e.g.:
In a medical college, would you want an easier exam where most students pass out even if they have not put in the hard work?
Or would you go to a doctor who has been certified as “New” to take medical advice?

Persistence & Good Business Practices pays over the long term.

However, we do appreciate your idea that new sellers need to be encouraged in some way & shall definitely take it up as a part of our future plans.


Regarding Top Picks, we have been experimenting with higher prices to gauge buyer interest. We are restructuring the criteria for Top Picks to encourage more participation from sellers & a better variety of items for buyers.

Thanks for your time replying my concern.

As a growing seller it is encouraging words for me.

If you really like to help, upcomming sellers having feedback score below 100, kindly help us in following ways. It is most difficult time in the eBay life.

1. Non Power Sellers having good feedback can be listed in a separately in group called "Outstanding New sellers" like "Popular eBay shops". The condition should be.

Mini Power Sellers standard:

A. Should be eBay member atleast from 3 months.
B. Feedback score 10 and above (Less than 100, non-powersellers)
C. 98% positive feedback score and above.
D. 5 positive feedback scores in past month.
E. Rs.1000 sales per month
F. 5 active listing.

Buyer can identify good new sellers. Also new sellers will enjoy selling and they also maintain some standard to enter here same like Power Sellers. Later on when get 100 feedback score, they automatically become Power Sellers if they maintain standards.

With my experience most difficult part is getting feedback scores from 10-50, if you some how encourge them they will be potential power sellers for tomorrow.

In an over all result eBay standard will improve, and more and more buyer trust eBay and everyone enjoy shopping here.
