For INDIANS Ebay is the place to window-shop!!

Hello,
Selling online is quite an experience; the shop is open 24 hours and you never know when an unwelcome person may barge in and mess up your stock kept cleanly and orderly. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A NON-PAYING BIDDER (as they are referred to by Ebay) buys something from your items and never bothers looking at the 'Pay Now' button.
I have been selling for some 2 years now and have had Indian members mostly among the non-paying bidders; only one one occasion during the entire period was the 'offender' a foreigner.
What I can make of this is that Indians are addicted to window-shopping and at times are so impressed by an item that they lose control of themselves and click the 'Buy Now' button.
It amazes me that I had almost zero non-paying bidders when I stopped offering PaisaPay as a payment option for some time (I offered only PayPal). But they returned as soon as I started offering PaisaPay again.
May better sense prevail.

Hello Sir,

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I agree that buying on ebay may be a hasty decision for most of us and so there is a steady Dispute Resolution mechanism present, so that you are not generally at loss. But for many sellers who add features to their listings, it is indeed a pain and a loss of time & effort.

But instead of blaming the system, if we try to turn it into our favour, it may help! So I suggest,

Lure your buyers into the deal so that they may actually complete the transaction.
This can be through regular communication, offering Discounts & Bonus-Gifts, informing the positives of buying from you and even by helping them make buying-decisions! Turn the deal into something more than a 'Take-Payment-Ship-Item' situation, maybe into a relationship. If I were a non-paying bidder, this would definitely draw me towards you.

If you sell items in Auction, selling to the second-highest bidder (in case the winner doesn't turn up) will also be a better option rather than relisting with loss of Time + Feature-fees + Efforts. Believe me, most second-chance offers really do work!

Happy Selling !!
(and do buy often too ;-))

Hello,
Many thanks for your inputs. I never really though about this; I mean I have never tried to mail even once a non-paying bidder to complete the transaction offering any kind of benefits (discounts/ gifts).

I shall keep your suggestions in mind for future.

Thanks 🙂

For every non paying buyer i prefer giving the buyer a call. Even if 1 out of 10 deals go through by making a personal call and assisting the buyer with the transaction its not a bad deal.

If u dont want to sell to indains and hate them so much why dont u consider opening a shop on ebay.com and prefer to ship only to countries of ur choice as usa, uk,australia and europe and then set ur preferences to block buyers from countries to which u dont ship. such a option is already available in ebay.if u do this no "unwelcome indian" will ever "barge in" and mess up your clean and orderly shop.
