I have read the forum topics here and I am pretty confused over 2-3 things.
Recently I made a purchase of Mp3 Player worth 310$ through EBAY.COM, 2 days later I saw this
"Consumer electronic items, (except hearing aids and life-saving equipment, apparatus, and appliances and parts thereof). Shipments containing these goods up to the value of 200 Indian rupees (gift value) are at present released after the words "Released on caution" have been stamped on the item."
These are rules of USPS from which my seller is sending the mp3 player.
Somebody also said sometimes custom charges are 300%.
So the question is would I get the product? Or it will be stuck somewhere in between? Or is it on my luck?
and do they really charge 300% duties sometimes?
and How do I know my item has arrived, do they give a call or something?
thanks

All items except arms and drugs(non medicines) can be shipped.Even the liquids.
The mode of shipment will be decided by the shipping authority. For electrical and electronic items, they are somewhat sensitive. So it may be shipped by surface mail and will take more time.
Customs clearence may be done before packing up the parcel. This is a special technique of packing which can be opened and closed at both countrys very easily, but also secure.i am not able to describe that here.
I cant tell you about the customs fees. From this country, that is not so high. But every country is having their own custom slabs.
Yes,you will get a call from your country's customs,if they hold it up.May be in the form of a letter.
Normally Indian customs dont hold up if there is IEC copy with the shipment.
I ship internationally almost regularly.
Sometimes there are snags.
But,I can tell you, there is no unique rule.
If the shipment dont budge,it has to be chased, thats all.
If there is a tracking #,its easier.,
Thanx,
Truly,
Amitava
