Importer Exporter Code

I am a new eBay.in seller and have heard many a times about Importer Exporter Code (IEC for short) on this board. I have some very common questions about it :-

1. What is an Importer Exporter Code? (i.e. is it an I-Card, or a plain document or just a simple number )

2. What are the benefits of IEC ? (i.e. facilitates custom clearance, provides duty free import and export or something like that etc. etc.)

3. How do we use IEC ? (i.e. do we have to mention it in customs form, or write it on the envelope etc. etc.)

4. What are the basic procedures for shipping internationally ? (i.e. go to the Post Office with your parcel/envelope, then what ?)

5. What custom forms should be filled and where to get them from ?

6. Is Speed Post the best method for shipping internationally and what does it cost and what time it takes to ship to US or Europe ?

You don't need an IE code to buy an item from ebay.com

But you may be charged duty depending on luck. Sometimes customs check and sometimes gets skipped.

I had bought one headset from Hongkong seller 20days back and it reached here well.
