Online shopping is as safe and simple as buying movie tickets or doing your travel reservations online. With regards to your personal information each website will have a policy around storing the same. On most websites, card details will not be stored. If stored, they would definitely be encrypted.
For example, eBay India does not store any credit or debit card details of its members, the card details need to be entered for every transaction.
In 2009, the RBI mandated an additional security measure (Verified bv Visa or MasterCard Secure) for online transactions where customers need to enter a password in addition to credit card number and expiry date.
Please note that your bank password is never stored by any website. IAMAI (Internet and mobile association of India) is one of the associations formed for Internet and Mobile trading.
