the product that i had ordered was delivered in a broken condition. i have to now go through all the trouble of sending it back and i hope to get a replacement in a much better condition.

This is not a place to raise your issue if you have any issue about product then first speak with seller. As he is the right person to resolve your concern.

What do you think seller got out of the deal?
His product sent first was broken and now he has to resent you the product again. You will atleast get the product or the refund but seller lost everything. And on top of that you publicly are bringing a bad name to the him.
In India how nicely you pack, whichever courier you use, there are always chances for damages/losses/theft in the transit . Sellers on eBay are always co-operative and ready to exchange damaged parcels. We all should admire that.
