This is to notify all about how great the customer loyalty program of eBay is. I wasn't a great eBay buyer but haven't been a dormant one either. This month from 13th May, 2012 to 18th May, 2012 I made purchases worth almost 30K. (Rs. 28,536.00 to be precise). I thought I could use any of the coupons for my purchases (6 overall) but found I have only one received from eBay which was a paltry Rs. 500/- off. Then I get this email about "Summer of 2012" on 21st May, 2012. I checked with my friends registered on eBay and they have been getting this notification for the last 2 weeks. I like a loyal customer never tried using fake coupons on websites but it seems all what eBay wants to do to its customers is fleece more and more money. My friends had identical or even worse buying history than me who got those promo mails before me. They still haven't bought anything, but when I contacted eBay customer service a guy called "Praveenkumar T" replies - "Since You forgot to apply the promo code nothing can be done". Moron doesn't even read that the issue is that the notification wasn't sent out in time. I get coupons in email expiring in about 4-5 hrs. What crap ? 2 years back eBay had no competition but today it has in India. Flipkart, Naaptol, etc have better regard for customer loyalty. At least they don't shoo you away as the eBay customer service does. They are the rudest. And this isn't the 1st time that eBay customer service has acted cold. Last year I bought a Samsung Corby and escalated to eBay as seller posted wrong info about product but they never resolved this and kept asking me to go to Samsung. No point bringing up old issues but would urge all to buy from eBay only if impossible from anywhere else. My next purchase worth 10K in the next 1 week time surely won't go to eBay if they don't do something about this shabby marketing.
I hope some sincere customer experience employee reads this and does something better than accusing me ("idiotic suggestion that I forgot to apply the promo codes"). It has really fueled me to leverage all my network to let the world know what eBay is doing.

I guess I have already got my answer. But the big question is who in eBay decides who should get the promo mails and when ? This is normally done through lots of text mining and data analytics. But the point is that is a mechanical algorithm. The company should be brave enough to say - ok if I have missed that let me see how else I can do good to the customer. They shouldn't come back and point a finger saying you missed it not our fault, where in the miss was from them not giving the details in time. I have program managed a lot of campaigns for a big MNC and we have always maintained customer is the king no matter how big or small he/she is. So if we miss out something we always compensate by offering alternatives. eBay has o right to be rude to be the way they have been. People who are cheating them, they reward them further. People who don't are blamed for their honesty.
