Dear Ebay Sellers,

I am a small time seller on ebay and things have been moving smooth. I offer insurance facility to my customers and ship only via bluedart or Tnt.

I sent a consignement last week to a buyer to reach him the very next day. It was a high value mobile phone. The buyer today after more than a week comes back and says that the item received by him was broken in transit. When i asked him why he didnt contact me earlier he said that he was out of station and the package was lying at his office. My listing clearly states that buyer has to check item on delivery and inform/ reject parcel in case of a problem. Since the buyer didnt do that the courier company will not agree that the parcel "might" have broken in transit.

The buyer had not availed the shipping insurance provided and hence the onus is now on me. I would like to understand from experienced sellers on how to handle this transaction and any negative feedback which the buyer may want to leave for me. I am an honest seller and have 100% positive ratings and would like to maintain that. What is the recourse in my case. Appreicate if experienced sellers and Indraneel as well from ebay can throw some light on this.

Dear this happens regularly with me.. don't worry at all. Now the only option left for you is refund 100% money else the buyer can file dispute...or chargeback (if the item is paid using credit card.)
Options may also include that you may have to pay reshipping cost to the buyer i meet daily such buyers.
Be prepared for negative feedback if in case u don't agree to his terms of taking back the item that he intentionally has damaged.

This is ebay the more you plan to save the more you will loose.

He may leave negative feedback for you. Will write to ebay against you. Will file dispute against you. Will file chargeback if he paid using credit card. In case he files chargeback no power in the whole world can get your money back in that case. You will loose the money the phone and also will recieve a negative feedback.

- It is much better if he did not paid u using credit card refuse to accept return because we all know its his mistake and he is lying.

- If he paid using credit card better you plan to take back yr mobile immediatly and send him refund for it.

But then what is the use of Insurance on Ebay and all the terms and conditions if the buyers are not sticking to it. The cost of the mobile is 8000 Rs which will ruin all the profits i earn in this month. Please help me sellers and indraneel

the rules and conditions are just for the sellers. No rules applies to buyers they are free to buy create problems and end with lots more problems.

You will find 50% good buyers and 50% be prepared for the bad ones.

Don't dream that ebay is going to help you with this issue they did not helped me how can they help you ?

If they really do i will be SHOCKED... !!

Just Wish the buyer don't knows how to file chargeback with credit card company else no power can help you.

Hi! mumbaistores

If the item is broken in transit then no courier company will pay for the loss. As it is the buyers duty to check the item before the POD is signed. Once the POD is signed then the courier company's liability is over and the transit insurance is over.

How ever the buyer can create problems for you on ebay. try to give him a call and explain him that it is almost a week now and any claims have to be informed within a day or two.

Or if you can send a body panel to the buyer then it will be better and easier to solve the problem.

The rule of the game is very simple. "KEEP THE BUYERS :-)HAPPY AT SELLERS COST". Nobody is here to see what's right or wrong.Its always the seller who is at the receiving end so bear it. and be ready for a -ve feedback too nobody can help you on this except you and yourself ( bear the loss:-( for buyer's mistake).

I'm glad to have an update for you on the specific case that you are concerned about and would like to assure you that you need not worry if the necessary information was highlighted in your listing.

Since I do not have the details of the Item sold we were not able to check the same but from the brief that you provided to us we understand that you had highlighted in your listing that buyer has to check item on delivery and inform/ reject parcel in case of a problem.

I'd like to assure you that our claims team will surely consider the policies/warranties being highlighted by the sellers in their listings and we request the sellers to highlight the same during their discussions with the team appropriately.

Moreover, if the sellers feel that the feedback left by the buyers are unjustified they may always contact us and file a report of unjust feedback.
