Power Seller Criteria - Vote it Out

Hello Everybody,

There are changes in the Power Seller Criteria which raises the minimum average Sales required from Rs.5,000 to Rs.20,000.

Is it justified ?

ebay-India is trying to match it with ebay-USA where the criteria for Bronze Power Seller is $1000.

Taking into account that 1$ = Rs.40 .... Power Seller status should have been at Rs.40,000 worth of Sales per month. But Indians are being offered at a Sales figure of Rs.20,000. (50% discount)

But what ebay-India is not looking into is the amount of Sales an average Seller is having.

On ebay-USA there are more than 1.5 crores Live Listings as compared to ebay-India where there are just 1.25 lakhs Live Listings. There are massive Sales on ebay-USA and $1000 criteria is quite justified.

Upholding Community Values, maintaining 98% Feedback, clean ebay account and complying with all Policies .... All these have taken a back seat and Sales figure of Rs.20,000 have overnight become the Main criteria.

Apart from status PS Logo ... ebay was distributing packing material to all Power Sellers. This was the only recurring expense which ebay India was shelling out of their pocket. Now it seems that it has started pinching ebay-India and wants to reduce the Power Sellers in India.

So rather than denying the Packing material they seems to have come up with an immediate solution .... 🙂

Many New Sellers I know where just working hard to achieve this status PS logo .... would definitely be discouraged now as the target has been increased 4 folds.

I feel the increase from Rs.5000 to Rs.20000 should have been over a period of 1 year. This would have given reasonable time to serious sellers to work hard and push their sales. Un-realistic goals cannot encourage anybody to attain the targets.

This ebay step is not to encourage Seller's to achieve higher Sales but it's a specifically created Criteria to knock down the number of growing Power Sellers.

I am sure that the existing Power Sellers with much higher Sales would support this ebay move.

I am also sure that serious Sellers with lower Sales would not favour this at all.

It's just a debate to see how many are in favour and how many against it.

So guys ..... just VOTE it out.

Dear Sellers,

The objective of the PowerSeller Program is to provide larger business sellers with a good standing on eBay (and who provide a good buying experience) an enhanced identity so that buyers identify them as trusted sellers. While the new criteria of average gross sales of Rs. 20,000/- in 3 months might be a concern for new sellers, sellers also need to provide consistent good buyer experience to multiple buyers.

The earlier criteria of Rs. 5000/- average sales in 3 months was too low a value and with couple of transactions a month sellers were eligible for the PowerSeller status which may not have displayed consistent good experience to buyers. The average gross sales increased to Rs 20,000/- would address the desired minimum regular sales and provide consistent good experience to multiple buyers.

We have evaluated the impact of these new criteria on the current set of PowerSellers and reviewed their sales. With the new criteria majority of our sellers from various categories will continue to retain their PS status.

Now that we will have a more evolved set of sellers as PowerSellers, it gives us the ability to provide more benefits. We will have more extensive merchandising promotions for PowerSellers. This will also enable us to consider differential rates of feature fees and tool fees.

The new criteria will be live from Nov, 2007 which means sellers who don’t qualify to be PowerSellers will have another month (till Dec, 2007) to meet the criteria. This should provide sellers sufficient time to achieve the new criteria. We will also be communicating individually with all our current PowerSellers on their likely status and ways to retain the PowerSeller status with the new criteria.

Thanks for the reply. We cannot say both not comparable, you do online business of run a shop, you cannot be successful if your customer is not happy.

Your answer is infact right.

So they can bith be A+ in their own league.

Both of the doing good service for different customer groups, so both should be considered as Good Sellers, (eBay calls them PowerSellers) regardless of full time or part time, as long as customer is happy.

However, here in eBay as well, as long as a seller meets eBay PowerSeller standards, should be given title, regardless he is doing full time or part time.

The better Idea would have been to give more privileges and extensively promote Silver and Gold Power Sellers rather than throwing an axe on the Bronze Power Sellers.

This way the Bronze Power Sellers would have worked much harder rather than having a bad taste.

Platinum & Titanium must be a rare commodity as far as selling Nationally is concerned.

ebay-India is full of management Gurus at the backend but it's pity that they find the easy way out.

Community still hopes that ebay-India would review this Criteria. .

If I read it right,Sapana said some special criteria to be evolved by you for pple selling low value items like stamps?

i can almost sense that the powersellers are soon to get some real good exposure.
Hope ebay makes the programme real good so that sellers who would miss out
the berth by the increased sale criteria
get real pumped up to achieve the revised targets

I dont know,but sometimes I feel you are right.I have a feeling that I can also achieve that target of 20k.Yes,may be with my low value items.May be I adopt a more pro-active policy.But I shall try by december.Who knows!!!Afterall more sells means more money.Let us see.We are in the same boat.Come what may,we should try.

I would rather go with Dhoni than with Yuvraj.

Working after your are pumped ..... won't take you far.

Expections are too high when ever Yuvraj is at crease.
Everytime a sixer is expected from him and poor guy would always be under tremendous pressure.

On the other side Dhoni is a practical man.
He knows that his boys are talented.
He is creating a coordial atmosphere where pressure is minimum.
He wants the Boys to enjoy every bit of the game.

His stratergy has worked and would work in future too. .
