Dear Members

At eBay, it has been our constant endeavor to improve our buyer and seller experience. Some initiatives we have recently taken in this direction are a new Home Page layout, Feedback 2.0 and improving feedback adoption through promotions like Cricket Mania. The new Home Page layout helps us showcase interesting inventory like 1Paisa auctions, whereas Feedback 2.0 is a result of frequent community feedback to incorporate more details in the Feedback system.

Providing our users with better value is also a key focus area, and we have tried to address this through introducing new features like "Markdown Manager" using which sellers can run discounted promotions in their shops, thus helping sellers showcase their offerings better and helping buyers find good bargains.

To achieve our twin objectives of better value and improved user experience, we are introducing a new Fee Structure for all categories.

Key changes are:

• All listings created on eBay India will be subject to new Listing Fees, revised Final Value Fees, revised Feature Fees and Seller Tools Fees. These new fees shall be applicable to all listings in all formats (i.e. BIN, Shop Inventory format, and Auctions) created on or after 11:59 PM IST on 31st March 2007

• Listing fees shall apply to all listings by sellers who have listed more than 20 listings on eBay

• No Gallery Fees will be charged, however sellers will need to select Gallery while creating the listing to avail the feature

• Listing Fees will be credited if your item does not sell successfully (including Unpaid Item) for the first time, but is successfully sold in the 1st re-list instance

• Fees associated with Services & Real Estate and Cars & Bikes categories remain unchanged

We understand that our sellers may need to make changes to their current business plan to accommodate these new fee changes. So, we encourage you to check the Managing your eBay Business Strategy, download the Fee Calculator, attend our Online Workshop on 23rd March, or use our Customer Support Resources to help you understand your overall listing strategy.

To learn more about these Fee changes, read our FAQ section. Your suggestions & comments are valuable to us and we encourage you to share your feedback with us on this thread.

We are aware that, as a seller, you have a choice of outlets through which to sell your products. We appreciate that you choose to do business with eBay. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our sellers and buyers continue to have great eBay user experiences.

Regards,

Sapana

Sapana….Its sheer dissapointment for me and so many other sellers as well!!! I cud not sleep peacefully yesterday night after going thru the latest ebay news about these alarming revision of the fee Structure….

I was just planning to introduce more items and here my dreams have been shattered….

I really donno how we sellers are going to survive on ebay….

I can understand ebay has taken this step after considering the plus points of the outcome from the Mobiles category….But I need to ask..why only the mobiles category was chosen???The hottest product selling on ebay India with very positive response always has been the mobiles category anyways.so why the experiment was done on that category?? Also the experience with one category cannot hold good with all categories.

In the mobiles category…If u take a particular Brand, there are limited select number of models and that too unique ones to select from and also since these products have a high Margin the sellers in this category will not face much problems…But look at products like apparels and accessories…There is no end to variety and unless and until u showcase all the available colours, designs, material, u just cannot be in the competition!!!!I sell silk sarees and have about 375 to 450 different unique designs and colours potrayed on ebay..but still the sale of sarees is only 4-5 sarees in a month…..The reason is there are unlimited designs to choose from in these categories and there is a big big competion.
Now just imagine if all we sellers start showcasing only a few items in these categories then the buyers will have limited choice and will definitelty.
drift away to other websites offereing more varieties. The pepsi/coke example which one of the ebayers has given will not work here…no way!!!

I really don’t know what all this is going to lead to but personally I feel, it’s a big blow on the seller community….there might be very few happy sellers but those are ones already earning in lakhs….day after day the UPI Are just getting more and more inspite of bidder management etc…its already becoming a bitter experience with fake buyers ….and now the very survival on ebay is a big question with these fees hikes.

I do appreciate and congratulate the ebay team for their eforts to bring positive changes in feedback system and the introduction of markdown manager….But this change in the fees structure has come all of a sudden as a very big shock and definitely is a total dissapointment!!!

Thanx for ur time!!!

Regards
Mala

Hi Sapna,

In an earlier reply you said ebay will not earn unless a seller earns.
But how much ebay takes care of buyers and seller- take this example :-

I have an iten costing me Rs 5800. After a margin of Rs 200 I am happy to sell it for Rs 6000 and I have observed that all the interested buyers of this item are happy to pay anything between Rs 6000 to 6500 for this item.

Now think I uploaded this item in 10 days auction with homepage, feature plus, gallary image and bold = Rs 150+60+5+0.25= 240.25.
If this item sells successfully fo Rs 6500 and the buyer pays thru paisapay credit cards then additional cost incured will be Rs 227.5= credit card processing + Rs 100 shipping + Rs 262.5 ebay FVF ie Rs 590.
The total expenses to sell the item will be Rs 590+ Rs 240 promotion charges = Rs 830.

Means I purchased the item for Rs 5800 and the buyer buyed it for Rs 6500. Though the buyer gave a margin of Rs 700 but Ebay charged Rs 730 nad adding rs 100 shipping to it, I will get Rs 6500-830= Rs 5670 ie a loss of Rs 130 that is when the item is sold successfully.
Incase the item is not sold or the buyer does not pay, still I paid Rs 240 as promotion charges.
Pl let me know who is making benifit- I, seller, Buyer or Ebay?

Basically all the replies made by eBay are false and hold no ground.

Yes, It will reduce multiple listings but only for genuine sellers. For example we who sell only Original Software operate on low margins.

People selling pirated software make a CD for Rs. 10, sell for Rs. 150 so they are not affected.

Everytime the piracy point issue is raised, eBay India gives us VERO Crap and we are doing our best and so on...blah blah...blah. What's worse even when it is reported they take no action (Baazee was very proactive in taking action by the way)

So how come eBay USA has no pirated software on sale?

In fact even Movie piracy was abundant and on complaints too eBay did not care. It was only made a restricted category when the MMS Scandal broke out. So basically it mean's we do not care about the stuff being sold, we don't care about the reports received from users and as long as we get our money and the law leaves us alone we dont give a damn. We don't care about this country cause though we are Indians we are working for American eBay so screw nationalism and service towards fellow Indians.

We are pretty sure the credit card sales done by us in our shop everyday are not even 10% value of eBay's total PaisaPay Sales received by them everyday. So how come even then we pay only 1.5% on credit card transactions to the CitiBank Payment Gateway we have but eBay inspite of doing so much online payment volume still charges us 3.5%?

eBay themselves have failed in controlling multiple listings so they are passing the burden to us.

As rightly pointed out by somebody half the work and help is given by other community members.

They say eBay India has evolved and hence listing fees. But then how come no buyer verification to reduce UPI? At this time eBay will say cause people don't have ctedit cards or are concerned about safety even though today majority transactions are through PaisaPay. The SMS verification system is crap.

And it's a waste of time typing all this cause the hard fact is that eBay does NOT care. Full Stop.

And to the add to the previous post it must be noted that we are NOT against the concept of the introduction of listing fees. It is necessary and required.

What we are against is that the listing fee has been introduced without keeping in mind the plenty of other factors addressed by us in our previous post, factors which are very important for the seller.

The seller issues should be addressed first and solved and then only should listing fees be introduced.

Another example of no commitment to sellers:

Has eBay worked on re-introducting ABN AMRO payment option?

No.

Has eBay worked on re-introducting UTI payment option?

No.

Has eBay worked on faster PaisaPay Verification?

No. In fact orders as low as Rs. 1000 go into pending.

Other Payment Gateways have expanded their payment option such as accepting Kotak Mahindra, Punjab National, ITZ. Has eBay added any new payment option since inception in India?

No.

HI

with this fees structure i see a subtantial fall in my sales & increase in ebay cost.
It is already becoming very difficult to sell on ebay.

I list about 3000-4000 article unique. And in luxury segement or high value segement only very selected designs sell.
We materlaise 1-2 sale after such heavy lisiting. A good amount of manpower is empolyed for creation of lisiting

I am more of dissapointed with Rs.5 for High value article.

If at all we have to have this then high value article should be max at Rs.2.

I belive the high value segement has been ignored.

This will have the same downfall implication as when we had we NO reserve seller Created slab was removed. Were only ebay structured bidding slab is approved. We dont meet high value there. hence we hardly sell at No Reserve

And the same will stand fold for this Rs. 5 structure.

i will apperciate a response or thought about reasoning from ebay this time.
This will help us plan our selling structure/plan

Best Wishes

X-(:-(

I am not happy with the listing fee. I am having more than 1250 unique products and most of the products sold once in a month or two. I have very rare available cd's with me, which is not availble to buyer easily.

I can not survive if listing fee is introduced and i need to reduce those products from my TL.
