Hidden Shipping Charges

Dear eBay team,

A Lot of people list their product prices very low but add it to the shipping cost.

At end of day i have to pay both shipping and product charges and hence you might aswell take into account the sum of both instead of search and sorting available only on product price.

I believe it would give more visibility to genuinely priced products and would not require the buyers to sit and do calculations for every product price + shipping and see how much would it cost him.

Product and shipping costs should be mentioned separately. But there should be some check on the shipping costs.
It looks ridiculous, when you see an item on auction for Re 1 with shipping cost of Rs 245, while the same type of item is available under same category for Rs 150-175 with shipping cost of Rs 75-50. Ebay should take some steps to stop such gimmicks.

;-)The whole process of One Rupee Auction is a Farce.
Obiviously no one will sell an item for a Rupee if the basic cost is more. Why not state the Minimum opening bid and charge normal shipping charges?
Also auctions help the buyer to sell a cheap item for much more than the true value of the item.
I personally had such experience wherein the item cost in the market was 50 Rs and I ended up paying 175.00 including shipping charges. Needless to say that the item was sub standard, cheap, and useless. Sellers are very clever to list their items with a lot of frills.

Could anyone from ebay india team inform why there should be vast difference in shipping cost of two similar items eg. a watch, one is charging 50/- the other is charging 245/- ! This kind of things will degrade ebay's image.

eBay doesn’t advise sellers on the shipping charge, sellers fix their own shipping charges for their products.
If you find any such instance of unrealistically high shipping charges kindly report at Contact Us

Once you report the same we shall take appropriate measure. Looking forward for your support and making eBay an enjoyable experience.

thanks for your response. you can see many such anomalies in shipping charges. As you asked, here is an example :
Item : Trendy Foldable Iron, item no. 4396973203
seller ; esourceenterprises
Buy It Now - Rs 199/- + shipping cost Rs 100/-. Total Rs 299/-

Same item, item no 4396973169
same seller,
Starting bid Re 1/- + shipping cost Rs 250/-.Total Rs 251/-
And not surprisingly, there are no bidders. What is the fun of bidding on ebay ?
Any answers now ?

Hi,

The People at Ebay should realise the concerns raised by lot of buyers here about items listed at Re 1 with high delivery charges.

We know Ebay cannot control sellers from listing their own items at their price but incase Ebay starts charging insertion fee as done in the core site we would have a clean site with quality listings and menance of Multiple listings would end.

This is the interest of the community if implemented.

The fear of Ebay staff on insertion fee is that the number of sellers would decrease and no listings would also come down is not correct.

The example is best exhibited by one other online Indian site.

I have tried to bring to notice some cases and mailed at contact@ebay.com.

Lets see what nvid or other ebay members do about it.

the case i've submitted is of a bluetooth dongle which is available for 525 + 100 shipping charges and second entry for same product saying
1rupee + 545 shipping

HA HA HA

Lets wait and watch ill keep you guys posted on developments.

BTW, I hope ebay would not expect us to keep doing this silly task of finding and reporting pricing errors(malpractices to be precise) and get a system in place to check it in first place.

We would like to know what action has been taken.
To improve buyers' confidence, you have to :
1. have some credit scoring for selecting sellers.
2. avoid malpractices like cost added in to shipping charges.
3. quicker communication at community forum (If u keep mum, we may feel something is wrong).
