Got Cheated by mehulcommunications

Hi,
I bought a mobile from mehulcommunications for 8850/-, the seller turned out to be a fraud.
He did not have any previous history, so called him up and spoke to him regarding the item. Since he did not have a paisa pay option, paid him through cheque, all was fine untill the cheque got encashed, the seller vanished, his mobile is switched off, does not respond to any mails. I have opened a dispute.
After that experience i noticed that there were several such sellers who do have any history and invariably quote lesser than the normal price.

Sorry to know about situation. Please read my post for a previous fraud case :

Tips : Carefully judge a seller by seeing his past feedbacks and Powerseller status. If expensive items (> Rs.1000) use PaisaPay.

Hello,

When bidding an expensive item, for example Mobile phones, iPod, Jewelry etc... please check the warranty they offer and seller reputation from feedback. Everyone has a wish to buy for cheaper price, fake sellers are making use of this opportunity and they offer a very good branded phone/iPod for 50% discount to get the what ever possible money and run away.

(Why not eBay check the identity proof like Passport, Credit card, etc if some one sell item priced above Rs.1000 for example.)

Please look for PowerSeller Logo next to seller before you buy a expensive item.

http://pages.ebay.in/services/buyandsell/powersellers.html

If you use PaisaPay you have 100% protection on your payment. You can definitely claim the amount paid though it is little bit late. Use Item not received dispute, if the seller does not reply about your shipping delay.

Good luck next time. Next time when you buy, don't forget to see Power Seller logo next to user id in eBay.

Regards,
CoolBrasCo.

Thanks.

But i feel ebay is equally responsible for such a situation, people buy because its on "ebay" not because its from an xyz seller. Its the brand name, otherwise there is no reason to buy here, and they should do something seriously about this. I can see many sellers
putting a banner in their ads saying "No nigerians", but if frauds such as what happened in my case continue we may have to say "No Ebay" very soon.
Going by this i think even a history is not going to help, If i was a fraud, i could easily create a false buyer identity and get myself rated positive couple of times to make it look authentic and con the buyers.
Unless the seller's true identity is established this is not going to stop.

Dear raj77_in1,

eBay is a platform for business. Every body can sell a product. Blaming eBay is no use.

As coolbrasco told, buying high value items, you need to look for a good rated seller with minimum of 95% Positive feedbacks. Power Sellers are recognized and appreciated sellers from eBay.in.

This doesn't mean that new sellers are frauds. You should check the listing quality, payment methods.

Open a Item Not Received Dispute, From the below link you can follow the process.
http://pages.ebay.in/help/tp/inr-snad-process.html

Your amount is safe as eBay protects buyers till Rs.10000 for offline payments and till Rs.50000 for payments through PaisaPay.

Trust eBay, You will receive the refund if you go the Item Not Dispute.

You can also file a complaint on the seller id at Cyber Police.

Hope this post is useful to you. Do reply about the out come. ---------------
