It would be very helpful if EBay India can provide some authoritative information regarding legal requirements to be followed by sellers in India.
Should sellers apply for Sales Tax/VAT/CST for domestic sales. Are these also required for exports apart from IEC. What are the documents to be furnished while shipping the products. All these are extremely important questions that need to be answered by a legal authority.
The sellers on forums give their own opinions, but that cannot be taken as legal advice. Many newcomers get stuck with these legal issues and do not proceed further, not wanting to mess with the law. Ebay must be losing thousands of prospective sellers because of this reason.
Ebay can hire an attorney for each country they operate in, and draft a complete legal guidance document that they can post on each site.
This will go a long way in eliminating all the guess work and ensure that all sellers are equipped with sufficient legal information to conduct their businesses safely and abide by the law of the land.
