!!!!!!!!!!! And Then There Were...None ( Sellers ) !!!!!!!!

Hello

Have you read the wonderful book by Agatha Christie called "And Then There Were None" ?

The same is probably going to happen to all our good eBay.in sellers...Going by the recent trend of suspending sellers, we would soon have to say...
And Then There Were None !

Yes, we have all begun to realise now that eBay has got really strict policies and they dont want sellers to mess with these policies.

But seeing all the suspension "dhamkis", and actual suspensions, i am now forced to think whether this is the right step taken by ebay as the indian market is just waking up to ecommerce.

Instead of encouraging new sellers to start selling, these harsh steps would make them run away ( as can already been seen by some posts in the Community Boards ).

Apart from eBay.in, there are some other big ecommerce sites as well that offer QuickBuy and Auctions. They have lucrative packages that can easily attract new sellers who want to have a foothold in the e-commerce market.

Now ebay should realise that if they keep on suspending sellers like this, newcomers will be forced to go to all these other sites. Ebay should realise that India is not a monopolistic market and it cannot stop the burgeoning of other competitive sites.

Post Baazee, Ebay.in has already felt the pinch for decrease in sales, decrease in sellers, and decrease in buyers. And that pinch might turn into a blow and then a knock-out

If soon, ebay doesnt adopt a more lenient attitude towards their policies, there would be widespread dissatisfaction amongst all big-time/small-time sellers And ebay.in would be nipped in the bud even before realising its full potential. It will lose its market share to other sites that are on the lookout for good sellers.

We hope ebay does some serious thinking about it. We hope the guidelines are set properly. And there should be proper education for all sellers about all the policies.

We want all sellers to stay. We want all those suspended to come back. We want the Golden Era for ecommerce back !

How about asking Agatha Christie to write another book..

"And they all came back...! "
Regards
Abhishek

Hello thethirdi,

Firstly, let me thank you for so clearly articulating the concerns of and many of our sellers like you. As Rajan mentioned in his Open House Session last week, this has been one of the biggest issues that our team has been working on over the past few weeks. I am happy to say that we have a very clear plan of action to address this issue, and I would like to share this with all our sellers.

But before I explain what we will be doing, I would like to discuss whether having strict policies is the right step in a nascent e commerce market. While I completely agree with you that we need to grow the market, I am sure you will agree that one of the biggest stumbling blocks to growth is the issue of Trust & Safety. 'Is this online platform safe for me to buy and sell?' is a question which many of our users have. We, at eBay, are very clear that we need to make this platform a safe one for users to trade. We need policies for our users to understand what they can do, and more importantly, cannot do on the platform. And policies are toothless unless we implement them. Therefore, we will continue to have policies, and will continue to implement them.

Most of these policies are consistent with the earlier Baazee policies. The difference is that we have been able to leverage on eBay's learnings to better enforce these policies. Since we have buyers from across the world buying from Indian sellers, it is necessary for these policies to be globally consistent.

Having said that, we absolutely understand that it will take time for our users to understand these policies. We plan to address this issue as follows:

1. Power Seller Education - We will be calling out to our Power Sellers, as part of the Seller Outreach Program, and we will place a lot of emphasis on Policy Education and clarifications regarding these policies in these calls. This program has already started, and all our top sellers can expect to hear from our team over the next 1 week. We will also follow up with another call out in the month of August.

2. On site Education for all sellers - We will be putting up on the site a detailed Policy Education Tutorial, which all sellers can go through to better understand the policies. This content will be up on the site by the 20th of July.

3. Mailers - We will send a mailer to all sellers, which will contain information and links to sections on the site where sellers can find more information on the policies.

4. Community Boards - We will educate our users on the policies through posts on the discussion boards. This will be an ongoing program.

5. Online Workshops - We will be conducting online workshops on the Discussion Boards to address any further queries you might have. These will be held in the first half of August.

We hope that all our sellers will benefit from this Policy Education initiative. As always, we will request for your support and co operation as we roll out this program.

Finally, I must tell you that all of us here really liked reading your post, and we hope that you will continue to provide us with your valuable feedback.

Dear Co-Merchants 'N' EBAY INDIA TEAM,
Well as per sharing our views on this issue, the first thing that comes to our minds is that as if EBAY INDIA is talking about SUSPENDING any NON PAYING FRAUDULENT CUSTOMER...Oh, come on you are Talking about SELLERS and merchants here and the SUSPENSION sounds completely CHILDISH and CHEAP. Trust us, we are not talking anything about the serious issues / conflicts. But the main point here is to resolve the matter than simply SUSPEND a SELLER. Most of the Sellers ( and we are talking about the Jewellry category ) are Merchants in their offline ARENA and would actually have no issues of paying the EBAY INVOICES or comparitively smaller issues. But the point is that no one spends a penny unneccessarily. We do remember some sellers being suspended due to non payment of their seller fees etc/..

The INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONALISM thru dissiplined POLICIES is definitely a good aspect to this ONLINE PORTAL and the Entire E-Commerce AREAN in INDIA, where it becomes more easier to get these business in the " ORGANIZED " form, but implemnting these irrespective of the other factors into consideration, where the ROOT CAUSE i.e. the ACTUALL ISSUE still being unresolved, is definitely not the correct way. WE MEAN HERE that the say tghe issue of Billing is the reason for the Seller's Suspension is his EBAY INVOICE. The Point here is that his issue is not resolved with THE PATHETICALLY slow and UNORGANIZED, INCOMPLETE " HELP FORM ". SO< WHAT DOES HE DO> NOT ALL SELLERS RECIEVE calls from EBAY BILLINGS to help resolve their issues. So, then the issue remains unresolved and hence the SUSPENSION takes place. COMPLTELY UNFAIR.

We propose:

1.) TOLL FREE / Direct HELP DESK for the POWER SELLERS, at no additional COST, Offcource.

2.) A Special HELP DESK specifically dedicated to BILLINGS 'N' INVOICES during the MONTH ENDS. for ALL SELLERS. MAy be you can divide POWER SELLERS and the REST of the Seller community. Or you can have the POWER SELLERS resolving issues on their REGULAR HELP DESK as well as ALl other sellers calling at the billing help desk 1 Week before MONTH ENDS.

SELLER SUSPENSION is JUST NOT ANYWAY to get things DONE.

ONE MORE THING " TOP POWER SELLERS " MEET IS DEFINITELY LONG LONG OVER DUE. May be category wise or even over all, depending upon feasibility as well as managibility.
