Letter written to eBay on June 27, 2007:

Dear Mr. Pyter,

(A) Many thanks to you for promptly processing the subject claims, which totals to Rs. 1,685/-, which is indeed a short period in which you have carried out the entire investigation and processing. I compliment you and your management for this quick and professional action.:-D

Barring a few unwarranted episodes:-(, here and there, I completely adhered to my original impression that eBay is a premier on-line single window interface between sellers and buyers, which brings the convenience of shopping right to one’s computer monitor.

(B) I would only reiterate and recommend that certain built-in checks and measures could alleviate both the buyer’s and seller’s confidence on the whole, thereby increasing the business volumes manifold. I would recommend the following:

(1) Check the antecedents of prospective sellers and maybe take a refundable security deposit from the serious minded ones.

(2) Device some methodology to protect the seller from ‘invisible’ buyers who escape after bidding and raising the bid prices unnesessarily.

(3) Standardize some national couriers for shipping the goods to customers. I have recently had a bad experinece with On Dot couriers deployed by one of your sellers. The material despatched on 19/06/2007 was ultimately delivered on late evening of 26/06/2007. Out of the two items purchased through eBay, only item was delivered thus. There is no trace of the other. During the 4-5 intensive follow up, we found, the officials of this courier service were mostly ill informed, unresponsive and refused to receive calls most of the time.
This means that even if the seller is genuine and has sent the material well within the time frame, the buyer may sometimes have to rate him as “item not received”

With Best Regards

Dear atanumukherji,

Wonderful suggestions. I totally agree with your opinions. Sellers should use good courier services like Bluedart / DTDC. Even Speed Post from our Indian Postal Service is also very good compared to many courier services. ---------------

Dear Navneet,

Thanks for agreeing with my suggestions to eBay.

No! I haven't received the refund yet. eBay has promised to that to me within 30 days. Must be some internal audit and processing, due to wchich it would take that much time.

Warm Regards,

Atanu
