there is a provision to hide one's feedback from other users .
my personal opinion is like it is against buyer interest that facts are suppressed ! and it belies the basic use of a feedback
How many buyers would be comfortable buying from a seller who hides his feedback .... ??
but still from what i know there may be a few genuine reasons for hiding one's feedback by many sellers so lets not discuss if it is a MUST or not
================
A buyer has complete control over whom he chooses to transact with ... he simply will not buy from a hidden feedback seller if he is not comfortable
BUT a rethink is needed on this issue from a seller's point of view
How does a seller insulate himself ?? what if he does not want to deal with a hidden feedback person ?
a further illustration would be say a buyer's last 4 feedback comments are
" no matter what you ship ... he runs into dispute "
" be prepared to offer discount or get negative "
" not a genuine person "
" not at all co-operative "
As a seller who would be comfortable ? the seller may have no choice over whom he sells to but at least based on the feedback , he can take precautions like shipping through an online trackable shipping agencey and immediately recall for a POD and various other precautions can be taken ...
BUT ALL THE 4 FEEDBACKS ARE HIDDEN AND NOT TO BE SEEN BY THE SELLER EVEN AFTER THE BUYER HAS TRANSACTED SUCCESSFULLY ...
its like playing a blind game .... no business thrives playing blind games ... only gamblers try to !!

U
r rite runalaila_in1. We as a seller can't make choices while dealing -- like
not to deal with the buyer whose feedback is private. In this case we are
totally helpless. But buyer has all rights. He can deal with the person of his
choice. Whether the seller with public feedback or private feedback. Obviously
he won't deal with the seller with private feedback.

immediately what comes to mind is .... cheats would need to hide their feedback ....
though there may be othe reasons
but yes a seller should have control over whom he is selling his goods to !! he needs to know the feedback at least after they have agreed to transact ...
imagine a man coming with a towel on his head covering his face trying to comceal his face all the time in an offline super store throwing a wad of dollar notes informing he wants to buy ... leave aside selling ... the shopkeeper would either ask the guards to throw him out or call the police !! i do not think just throwing lots of money is reason enough for the shopkeeper to let a suspicious looking guy buy in his shop... http://stores.ebay.in/1hi2k

All rules are same for BOTH and no member is treated as a PURE BUYER or a PURE SELLER.
The issue in question is .....making the feedback PRIVATE and hiding it from other users.
Why does ebay allow this?
I my self think that this is formulated for the benefit of SELLERS.When some SELLER gets negative remarks they tend to make feedback PRIVATE and hides it from BUYERS. This is because 5-6 Bad remarks on top of the feedback Page dis-courages the Buyers to Buy from that Seller. Seller tries to gains TIME till he gets some GOOD remarks on the Top of the feedback page and BAD remarks are pushed down. By default 25 feedback remarks are aviable on a page. The tendency of the Seller is to push the BAD remarks to over 26th position so that they are not visible on the first page. After this the Seller reverts back to the normal view to make his feedback PUBLIC.
But some BUYERS take advantage of this tool and MISUSE it.
Since, ebay is a MACHINE and depends solely on the available DATA of violations (I would call it violation by Buyers).....nothing concreate could be done to consult 33 other countries to up-grade this tool.
runalaila_in1 has taken an initiative & ebay is expected to RESPOND.
I agree that both the buyer & Seller should be able to view PRIVATE feedback.....Once they commit to transact.
PRIVATE feedback creates doubts in the mind of the seller.
Buyer has nothing to loose after he pays money but Seller's Money, Time & Reputation is at STAKE till the time Product is received by the Buyer & positive feedback is received by the Seller.

and i am not here to know what could the reasons be to use hidden feature
However the point of emphasis is
Once a buyer and seller commit to deal ... each other's feedback should be available
OR
a seller should have an option not to deal with a hiddenfeedback person right there in his bidder management tool
