Price Difference in Open Market & ebay - Why ?

Hi Guys, I was looking for a Digital Camera - SONY CYBERSHOT S730 7.1 MP. I was able to find the product on ebay @ Rs. 5500.00, where as, when I have enquired the price of the product at SONY WORLD, it is Rs. 8990.00. Why is there a huge price difference ?? What causes such a huge decline in the price on ebay. I understand we can get electronic products at cheaper rates outside the showrooms, however, such a huge price difference is worrying me. Hello Kiran,

Yes your concern is genuine.

These chearper ones are with Seller's Warranty and not with All India Manufacturer's warranty.

In case something goes wrong then you will run from pillar to post but you won't get help from the Authorized Service Station of the Company.

You will have to get in touch with the Seller who has sold the product to you.

ebay would only give you protection for 90 days from the date of purchase.

So .... it's always sensible to buy Manufacturer's Warranty Items ...... available on ebay also. .

Sony Wolrd sells all the products at the MRP only. They will not give any discount to any customer...

However if you buy the same stuff from other authorised dealers then you will get some discount with manufacturer warranty.

If there is a huge price difference then may be it;s a grey marget product.

Grey Market products are Duty Evaded Products.

Customs Duty on Digital Cameras is approx 32% and VAT varies from 4% to 12.5% depending on the state.

So a grey market product would be cheaper by about 40%

Grey market products do not carry any warranty or guaranty of authencity. Grey market products can be used, tamepered, refurbished and accersories can be duplicate.

You can choose to buy a cheaper product without any warranty or choose to buy one with comprehensive warranty from Manufacturer.

Sadly you will not find any branded Digital Camera / Video Camera with Manufacturers warranty on ebaY.in

The economics do not work. A company like Sony offer only 7% margin to its dealers whereas ebay fees work out to more than that.

Accepted. That may be so. But I just did a market research on Casio Digital Cameras and found that not 1 single peice sold in last 2 months.

Does that say anything to you?

In the same marketplace either duty evaded or duty paid goods can sell.

Both cannot sell in the same marketplace.

Indians are slowly and steadily learning to buy genuine things Online.

Yes .... Manufacturer's warranty Items don't sell .... but am still surprised to see ebay's promotions on such products .... every other week.

I don't know what the Sellers earns out of that ..... after quoting the lowest Prices for such promotions.

Regarding selling of Casio Digital Cameras on ebay .... do go a little beyond 2 months and you will find one .....

Hello Devesh,

If you watch it carefully .... you will notice that the Payment Option is only PAISAPAY.

So .... the transaction would not have been recorded if the Buyer hasn't paid for it.

Also ... I must mention that FeedBack exchange does not guarantee that the transaction has been fulfilled.
In a number of cases Trading Partners do leave Feedback without completing the transaction. .
