Dear Sellers,
It has come our notice that some seller accounts on ebay.co.uk are currently under restriction.
The reasons for restriction can be any of the following:
- No VAT number provided to eBay
- Incorrect VAT number provided to eBay
- Business name mismatch between eBay and HMRC registration records
What you need do:
- Confirm that your eBay Business Name matches what's on your HMRC registration.
Here are some points to bear in mind with regards to correct Business Name:
- If the seller is a sole proprietor and does not have a company name, then the registration can be on the seller's name and it should match with the Business Name in eBay.
- Example:
- UK VAT Registration Name – John Doe
- eBay Business Name – John Doe
- If the seller is in a partnership or has a company, the UK VAT registration should be in the partnership firm’s/company’s name and it should match with the Business name in eBay.
- You will see an option to put the Business name on the HMRC website. The Business name and trading name mentioned on the HMRC website should be the firm’s/company’s name.
- Example:
- UK VAT Registration Name – ABC CORP
- eBay Business name – ABC CORP
For questions about UK VAT requirements, we recommend you speak with a tax professional. For any other questions you might have, please connect with your respective account managers or connect with eBay customer support team for help.
Regards,
