Hello linusstudios,

You are correct to write about Speed Post. But since few months, Postal Dept has changed like anything. They have introduced all latest ameneties in the dept. But as because staffs are same with old mentality, in some places they have not changed, like yours.

I suggest you to contact the following person who is All India Speed Post Boss and very very dynamic. I am writing convincingly because I know him personally. He takes decision very quickly and effectively.

Write him and may make a phone call.

His Address:

Shri John Samuel
General Manager Business Development
Department of Posts,
New Delhi - 110 001
Ph. 91-11-23096057
Fax. 91-11-23096151
Cell: 9868512115
email: johnsamuel@indiapost.gov.in

Please make effective use of this and let me know the development.

Thank,

Ashok Agarwal

Dear linusstudios
Speed post now offers home or office collection facility if you know. All you have to do is to make a call. Yes I agree that you have to pack it in a marquin cloth and you need to write speed post on top of it - this is something that hasn't changed - but now I feel they do it for the good - in cloth packing your parcel is safe but yes it's a pain sewing it and it consumes a lot of time but I strongly agree that speed post is amazing for remote location areas. Whenever I check the buyer is from remote location without giving any second thought I send it by speed post just by calling my agent who collect it from me and comes back with the slip of docket no. and charges too written on that slip :)

Thanks everyone for your awesome inputs. . May be i am a little extra hard on postal department. I will surely call up the person whose info's have been given. . . Also i forgot to add i now have a contract with Aramex. . In which 1 - i am getting better rate's than speed. . 2- in case they dont have their service to some location they themselves book it by speed 3- they pick up the parcel and pack themselves 4-deliver in no time . See my feed backs .5- all the parcels are insured. . And many other small favours which make my life a lot easier.. Needless to say i dont feel the need to change my logistic partner . . .

There is lot said about the pros of speedpost but would like to differ with what is being said here. I would tend to lean towards what linusstudios has written.

First I am situated in Nasik just 200Kms away from Mumbai and the situation is hopeless and pathetic in this city post office and just like what linusstudios described, I really did not expect things to be so bad in a place just 200kms away from Mumbai.

Coming to some comments posted here, i would to add something to that.
@real.phoenix...This might be in Ahmedabad but not in Nasik, here also the post office shut at 4.30pm no 24 hrs service, he sends stuffs most abroad so he might be confusing local speedpost with international speedpost.

@stylish_india... You do not have to pack stuff in white cloth for local sending by speedpost, they even accept ebay plastic bag, I have sent in ebay plastic bag by speedpost again here has said that coming home and clooecting, I am taking this with a pinch of salt ******************

You do not have to pack stuff in white cloth for local sending by speedpost, they even accept ebay plastic bag, I have sent in ebay plastic bag by speedpost. again here he has said that they come home and collect, what is monthly number you have to assure them of, do you have to have speedpost membership, the person coming is surely not from the post office he must be a speedpost agent as a postal employee will not spend traveling money out of his pocket to come to your house unless he is getting some commission on the sent parcel so saying that speedpost collects from home is wrong. I have being trying for such collection for the past 1 yr but post office says you have to come here to send, so that's it.

I sent 2 small parcels yesterday by speedpost(buyer requested speedpost) one weighing 62gms and other 134gms and I had to pay 57/- for each parcel, I send by DTDC and the same 2 parcels would be taken by DTDC for 30/- each, why are the speedpost rates so high ?? but yes as said it is good for remote locations otherwise speedpost sucks big time. One more time I wanted to send one 500gms parcel to US and as per "small packet and parcel" my cost all incl should have been 310/- but I was quoted the cost of 650/- for sending by registered airmail, hearing that I dropped the idea of international selling on ebay only for this reason, how to send ???, I see sellers sending for 2USD that comes to 100/- how do they do it is not known to me, I was told by the postal dept that sending of liquids is completely banned by Govt of India still I find 100's of sellers sending liquids to US how is that done ??????.

So in conclusion there is much more to it than it meets the eye, no one will tell you their trade secrets, no one will give you a clear picture of thing.

hello. i agreed speed post is cheaper . remote area service is there.and also it is reached to evey city.
i used to shiped with speed post but most impotant problem i faced that they dont ACCEPT ELECTRONIC. CROCKERY. JWELLERY they refused me for at least 10 times may be reason is. the handling in speedpost is very horrible . plus they have provision on stamping with a metal stamp they use it like a hammer so if u have any delicate stuff in parsal most of the times it get damages or broken. ya i agrred good packing can over come this problem.

again one more problem with speedpost is that the parsal size it should be minimum 6x6 inches . i dont know wheather its rule or creteria set by themself.

again in many old post office u need to buy post tickets of shipping amount and need to paste it on ur curior . problem i faced here when every i go to that office they use to tell me . we dont have that much tickets n refuse to registed

definetly sped post persons are frusteted. they dont behave good with u and some times refuse ur requet by telling someor other reson bcos they are govt employe they get their salary even they dont do single speed post.

speed post is good but need some standerdization and upgradation.

RECENTY I HEARD ABOUT MEDIA POST A NEW SERVICE BY POST OFFICE IF ANYBUDY KNOW DETAILS PLZ REPLY
THANKS

A Lot has been said and talked about Shipping. Why dont we all trade our rates and logistic partners. It will help other sellers get better deal from their's. I have already shared mine..

Also about speedpost I have said a lot. Thanks rajelectronics atleast I got a big support from your end. I inquired about pickup. They laughed at my face. believe me or not. Also today I visited nearby post office for International shipment rate inquiry. They had big poster about some box shipments fixed rate of 1000 Rs per Kg thing. I asked them . They told me its available in Head office , which is about 20 Kms from my place. When I asked them rates for speed or normal airmail I was told to come tomoro as today time was over 5. And I was just asking. The Saga continues.

I really feel Post office staff could take a customer handling course or something. No offences.

@im_animan .. Also No couriers would take jewelery I guess. You can send it without declaring. But in case its lost you wont get the value.

If you have a BNPL A/c (Book Now Pay Later) opened at the post office, then they might come home/office for pick up of parcels.I also use Speed Post for remote areas ,but their tracking facility and time of delivery cant be guranteed.Sometimes I have lost my items too.But still for remote areas,Speed Post is an option to be considered.

Thanks

And ofcourse, usually the staff at the post offices, irrespective of the location and gender, behave rudely. There are some exceptions though.
