I am a seller shipping all over India. I sell goods like Electronics, Mp3 and Mobile Phones. I use TNT to ship Mobile phones since no one except Bluedart and TNT accept Mobiles. Today when i went to TNT office to send a mobile phone to Bangalore, i was told by TNT Customer Service that Bangalore Customs department now requires TIN for all orders even though it may be person to person. Till yesterday i was sending successfully to Bangalore and more than 50% of my customers are from Bangalore. But now due to this new rule i believe i am going to face issues fulfilling orders for Bangalore.
I want the seller community to help and advise if anyone else besides me facing the same issue for Bangalore. IF yes does anyone has a possible solution. Can ebay help in anyway. Thanks for your replies in advance, Appreciate open discussion.

Its standard practice for courier companies to ask for a real genuine invoice.

Its a genuine problem. They require the TIN nos of the consignee ie the buyer. It is the state Govt rule.
Dear techniwas & assemblerz, they donot require the sellers registration information for bangalore. They say that they want the buyers TIN no for shipments to bangalore.
mumbaistores, it is very simple. Give some chai pani to the pick up boy and maintain good relation with him. He will do some settings in his office and send your parcel. Once the parcel crosses the city hub then there are rarely any issues in delivery.
But take precuations and wisely make the right decision. There are chances that the parcel may get seized... rarely... you have to take that risk
Dont play this game with West Bengal, you may burn your hands and loose the parcel.

My suggestion to you would be to look to an alternate courier agency where you have contacts and they would be able to help you when any problems occur. Since you are sending electronic items,TNT and Blue Dart are the best options, there are options like First Flight & Aramex.
But you have to quote your volume of parcels which you intend to courier every month.Based on that they would consider sending mobile phones & digital cameras.

I quote my TIN number and mention on the invoice -
"X% CST to Unregistered Dealer"
As long as my TIN numbers are genuine and I am charging and paying CST to the government there should be no problem at all in shipping to Bangalore / Karnataka.
Earlier there was an issue where Sales Tax rate in Karanataka was higher than other states and thus this rule came in place. But now with uniform VAT rates across the country there should not be such issues.

Thank you, you have highlighted and taken this discussion ahead. By CST i understand it is Central Sales Tax. May i also request you to help us understand how one can apply for a tin number. I am part time ebayer and have started to generate volumes given that i have two accounts on ebay. Would it make sense to go for TIN? Any valuable advise would help me shape my business and also for some others. Thanks a lott
