Selling Coffee

Dear eBay Team,

I need you help and advice. I would like to know i can sell Coffee(Green bean, rosted, coffee poweder etc...) in eBay.in. Because in eBay.com and ebay.com.au it is allowed. After your confirmation i am going to list. If i am listing, please let me know the appropriate category for this.

I would like to also know, if i am not allowed to sell in eBay.in, can i sell in eBay.com or eBay.com.au since they are allowing. Will be a violation as per eBay.in policy ?.

Thanking in advance for your kind suggestions.

Thanks and regards,
coorgcoffeebeans.

Selling Coffee

Hi coorgcoffeebeans,

Listing on any site is governed by the policies that are applicable to that particular site. Thus, if US site allows sale of coffee products, you can list them on US site.

Incidentely, eBay India is revising the food policy to accomodate seller needs. We shall be announcing the details shortly. Please stay tuned!

Selling Coffee

Dear Sapana, eBay Team,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply and update. Definitely it is going to be new era for eBay.

I have received below announcement from boards.

But my problem is, my relative is a Coffee Planter in the Coorg region. I would like to get it for best price and sell it. I will check with him that if he can get a certificate from Coffee board about the produce. Also try to get certification to sell on my own packing with labels or what ever is under legal procedure.

Point 1 and 2 there is no doubt any packed sold item in the shop to have it on packs. But exempted when they are sold in hand measurements in the small retail shops.

I would like to discuss more about point 3 & 4.

3. Greater details about the commodity including e.g what is it, chemical composition (if any) i.e. its vitamins, minerals, dietary properties etc.

About the required point 3, it is as per USFDA (US Food and Drug Administration) requirement. I am not sure in India we have such procedures. You buy a chips pack in the shop, it does not have any nutrition value information normally on pack listed like in US/UK brands. Even popular brands don't display in India. Basically we cannot sell any Indian brand snack, food or ready to eat meal items.

4. Warnings about the fact that product does not contain any artificial flavoring, coloring, chemical preservative &/ or product not suitable for children below 5 yrs etc

Than about point 4, for example if we selling a noodle pocket from a good brand on eBay, some times they say artificial flavors, preservatives used, but the eBay seller does not know the preservatives are edible for children below 5 years. Basically we cannot sell any ready to eat packed food even Cookies, Biscuits, etc. If they used artificial flavors and preservatives, but they are sold in local Indian market for public, why not we cannot sell in eBay ?. For example we cannot sell any popular biscuit brands under the new eBay rule if i understand correctly. If we follow strictly, we cannot sell hard candies also, because it is choking hazard for children below 3.

I need some clarifications about point 3 & 4.

I need to also know these requirements are for eBay.in only, you have adopted from eBay.com or other eBay countries ?.

Kind regards,
CoorgCoffeeBeans

Dear Sellers,

Based on the recent changes in certain regulations and to accommodate the need of our seller community to list food products on eBay, we are updating the food policy on eBay.

Seller wishing to list food products on eBay, may do so, subject to the seller procuring the necessary approvals and complying with local laws and regulations relating to prevention of food adulteration, packaging and ingredient disclosure requirements. The listing description for items listed under the category “Food” MUST clearly state:

1. Name & address of the manufacturer / Packer / seller (if the manufacturer or packer is not the seller).

2. Net quantity in terms of standard unit i.e. in metric system e.g. 500 grams, Litres etc.

3. Greater details about the commodity including e.g what is it, chemical composition (if any) i.e. its vitamins, minerals, dietary properties etc.

4. Warnings about the fact that product does not contain any artificial flavoring, coloring, chemical preservative &/ or product not suitable for children below 5 yrs etc
