How to use Importer Exporter code (IEC) on Purchasing from EBAY.COM ?

I am a new eBay.in seller and have heard many a times about Importer Exporter Code (IEC for short) on this board. I have some very common questions about it :-

1. What are the benefits of IEC ? (i.e. facilitates custom clearance, provides duty free import and export or something like that etc. etc.)

2. How do we use IEC ? for purchasing from ebay.com (i.e. do we have to mention it in customs form, or write it on the envelope etc. etc.)

3. What are the basic procedures for shipping internationally ? (i.e. go to the Post Office with your parcel/envelope, then what ?)

4. What custom forms should be filled and where to get them from ?

5. Is Speed Post the best method for shipping internationally and what does it cost and what time it takes to ship to US or Europe ?
