HI.I HAVE JUST STARTED BUSINESS THROUGH THIS SITE,AND AFTER 3 MONTHS OF SELLING AND RESEARCH,I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT THIS SITE IS FOR FRAUDS AND NON PAYING BUYERS.FROM LISTING OF HIGH END PHONES,NIGERIANS BUY IT AND THEN GO UNREGISTERED.IF THE ITEMS ARE REASONABLY IN PRICE,THE INDIAN CUSTOMERS WONT BUY IT AND BUY SIMILAR ITEMS WHICH ARE 40% LESS THAN THAT PRICE!!!WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IN THE MARKET AND THIS WILL SURELY APPEAR TO BE A FRAUD. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTION IN ATLEAST TELLING THE INDIAN ONLINE CUSTOMERS THE WAY TO BUY SAFELY???

dear sir,

i am totaly disagree with your view.

i am new on ebay , i am selling from last 2 months.& the response i am getting is very good.

if your prices & product are good then u will definatly get the order.

the nigirians are bad for us but we have to deal with kind of frauds.

as per our opinion ebay.in is good & prompt .

thank you ebay.

Hello shakticomputers.

I have seen the record of your sales and i have to tell you that you have done a superb job!!! Keep up the good work.

I sell mp3 players and mobile phones through ebay.I have got good response by selling mp3 players and profits too by selling them, most of them locally.

But there are many new members who join and buy the item. They dont pay for the items, even though i have sent many payment reminders.

The buyers dont have the confidence to buy. They feel that the sellers would run away with the money and they would be cheated.I have phoned them personally and asked why they dont pay. They say that they dont trust the sellers!!!

Ebay has a buyer protection policy, but the buyers still dont have the confidence to pay.

As in case of selling mobile phones, the price of a mobile phone in the local market will be cheaper than the price on ebay.in.So,do you think that buyers will buy phones online? They can go to their nearest shop and buy a brand new one for cheap.

Thank you
Rahul

Hi Rahul

Keep selling locally.

Keep relisting

File UPI's on time

Once you build up a few ratings with local buyers you will see sales increasing.

Start with a few low priced items at low margins.

Regards

hi rahul,
I too agree with you even though I am not a regular seller at ebay. I am a user since 2002. I have so far sold only 3 items in ebay, and for all these I had to relist the item 2-3 times, not because nobody bids for it, but the so called 'online community' refused to pay.
Now the trend is they ask you to send the item first and that they will pay for it once they are satisfied with it. But for the buyers there is a buyer protection programme and for the sellers such a programme cannot be thought of. These non-paying bidders are increasing day by day and something has to be done so as to curb this nasty practice. Ebay (and Baazee) has a very good reputation and a handful of indescent users can bring in chaos...

Hello,

Please note that while there is a lot of fraud on ebay, there are also a lot of transactions that go smoothly (you never hear about those).

As for the Nigerian scammers, the target mainly new sellers or sellers of popular electronic items such as laptops, cell phones, mp3 players and computer games such as Play Station. On the same day they register, they bid on several items during the last seconds of the auction or they use Buy It Now.

You may not be able to stop all fraudulent bidding but you can do a few things to protection yourself as much as possible.

You can block bidders that are not registered in India by going to My Ebay > Preferences then locate Buyer Requirements and on “Show” next to it. Then click on Edit. There will be a list of options for you to choose. Select the option to block buyers who are registered in countries to which you do not ship to and any other options you want to add.

In your auction description in big bright red letters, you can add WILL NOT SEND TO NIGERIA. This will not prevent them from bidding but it will let them know you will not send the item to Nigeria.

Some of the Nigerian scammers will register in India so they will not be automatically blocked but if a Nigerian does bid on your listing, please immediately file an Unpaid Item Dispute.

http://pages.ebay.in/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

Do not select the Mutual Agreement option when filing the dispute. I believe if the buyer is no longer registered, you will immediately get a refund on your final value fee. Make sure you file a dispute on all your auctions where the buyer did not pay for whatever reason whether they were Nigerian scammers or not.

Also on the Nigerian scammers, you can file an Unwelcome Bidder report against them:

Another thing I should add, buyers are not allowed to just bid without paying. Ever bid is a legally binding contract to follow an auction to the end. Any buyer that has bid, won and not pay on any of your auctions, add them to your blocked bidders list by going to the Site Map at the top of your screen. Then under Selling Activities, click on Block Bidder/Buyer list and add each non-payer to your list. They will automatically be blocked from bidding on your future auctions. You should also file the Unpaid Item Dispute 7 days after the auction has ended on each non-payer.

You might want to consider having pre-approved bidding:

http://pages.ebay.in/help/sell/manage_bidders_ov.html#preapprove

http://pages.ebay.in/help/policies/unwelcome-buying.html

Please be aware that the Nigerians are not going unregistered voluntarily. They are reported as fraudulent and ebay closes their account.

As far as purchasing items that are fraudulent, it is up to each buyer to research and know the value of the item and the seller’s reputation. If an item is selling for a really cheap price, it is most likely a fraud but no matter how many warnings are posted, there still will be a lot of people who will fall for the fraudulent listing.

Frauds on ebay.in

I sold a Nokia 6681 to a person from USA ID jurgebriggs2, who asked me to ship the item to nigeria, i first denied the same as the person got de-rgistered the next day, i filed a dispute with Ebay as i had clearly mentioned no international shipment, still this bugger was behind me to send the item to his friend in benin city in nigeria

I shipped the item through TNT(item number:9145971925), and this guy is then asking me to send another N70 handset for his friends wife, i asked payment from him, he said he will send money for both handset together, and has just send me a tracking number of UPS of the cheques he has being sending, but he has actually not shipped those cheques

is there any way by which such fraud can be reported, what action can be taken, this fraud is currently in UK

Please help.... i have lost aroud 16000 bucks in this !

You know when you read about fraud's on ebay it is all about the bogus sellers. What about us honest sellers who have the misfortune to come up against the scammers. Yes unfortunately they all seem to originate from the African continent.

I recently sold a brand new phone but have now had to repay the full cost because this person used 'someone elses' credit card. Shortly after our transaction my buyer asked if she could use my paypal account because I was verified. Of course I declined but thinking about it later, is this how they got the other person's details and if so, should I be held responsible. My own personal view is they are all in it together. Paypal's response is that because the person paying was not the same as the person buying it is my fault. How was I to know when the buyer had a user name which bore no resemblence to a real name. Paypal may protect unfortunate buyers and so they should, but they could not give a toss about sellers who are ripped off.
