Do all sellers of glass goods have this problem? I find that a well packed glass item is charged exorbitantly by a good courier firm like Blue Dart, usually well above the listed value of the item. How does one get over this, particularly as good packing invariably results in a volumetric assessment of cost, rather than just weight? Any input from experienced sellers?

As cellphonewala suggested, you can try then Indian Postal Dept.
Otherwise you can also try Professional Couriers. They are quite co-operative here in Calcuta. They charge volumetric only if the size is very big compared to the weight. But it is still much better than other A grade couriers who charge volumetric even for reasonable sized packing.
