Bidpay - what is it???

It has happened twice now. I listed my laptop on ebay for sale. The first time i got a bid, the person asked me to ship it to nigeria and said he'd pay through bidpay. His system of payment was very dubious as he told me that he's made the payment to bidpay and that i need to ship the item, provide the shipment number to bidpay and i'd get the money in a week's time. i even got emails from bidpay confirming it. This seemed very doubtful to me as what would happen if i did not receive the payment because the item was already gone from my hand. I sent the mails supposedly from bidpay to help@bidpay.com and they confirmed that they had not sent those mails. I cancelled the transaction and put it up for sale again. Again i got a bid from an agent in africa who wanted to make the payment in exactly the similar fashion, through a fraud site. I'd like to know what's happening and are others also facing similar situations. they're also bypassing the payment route through bidpay.

Bidpay is a legitimate site run by Western Union and PayPal's closest competitor. It's one of the tools used by these Nigerian scammers.

Never ship to Nigeria else you will loose your money !!!!!

The Nigerian Syndicate is now bidding with addresses from India also.
Hence we once again repeat do not ship any products unless you receive Cash in hand whether it is Nigeria or Timbuctoo.:O

I feel the sellers need to be made aware of such scamsters.

Probably ebay.in should come up with an awareness drive for sellers to educate them on how these fraud buyes operate.

Many sellers are not too computer/internet literate. They do not understand what is the difference between the left side and the right side of an email address like abc@xyz.com.

They also do not understand that even email addresses can be faked by using small utilities available freely on the internet.

So we have always followed one Golden Rule Of the Thumb.
NEVER SHIP THE PRODUCT UNTIL YOU HAVE GOT THE MONEY FROM THE BUYER...WHETHER IT IS INDIA OR NIGERIA. if you get a cheque, wait till it gets credited.

This way you will be much happier !

i just had the same thing happen to me they want me to send the item to nigeria before i get payment. i emailed bidpay to see what is happening. I will never break my rule that i will not ship an item with out payment in hand.
