Help - Procedure to Export Through India Post.

Hello All,

I am a retailer of handicrafts from Kolkata. I plan to start online selling through ebay..

I need some info with regards to procedure to be followed to export through India Post and welcome all your inputs. Especially the documentation part. What documents will I have to prepare?

Also for all exports is there any returns or documents to be submitted to DGFT/Customs/RBI.

Hi,
The best is to go to the DGFT office in Esplanade East ( beside Peerless Office). The persons in the reception are vey helpful. They will answer all your queries. Do not go to any agent. You can easily get an IEC from DGFT, Kolkata, without paying a single Rupee bribe to anybody. Just follow the instructions of the officials in the enquiry / reception counter.

Thanks for your post. I have already obtained iec code number. services of dgft is very effecient.

Can you tell the locations of foreign post office in kolkata. also are customs officers present at gpo.

I have read (am not sure) that for exports below the value of usd 1000 no pp/gr form is required if the exporter does not want to claim any export benefit/drawback. if any member can elobrate on this it will be great help.

For export shipments do i need to get the packets examined by customs or i can carry them packed from home.

FIRC should not be a problem as i will only accept online bank transfer and checks/drafts. and my local bank will issue me firc.

but is firc that is all required and filling of income tax returms. are any returns etc. to be filled with customs/dgft/rbi periodically.

if anyone from ebay please joins this discussion i am sure many like me who are not well versed with laws clarify their doubts.
