Dear hawkserv,
This is a normal case and products do come with a fault.
Suppose you buy something from a shop located 20 kms away from your place. And when you come back home and open the packing you find it a faulty ONE.
What do you do?
Naturally you call up the Shop Owner and tell him the problem.
If the Shop Keeper is genuine, what would be his reply?
He would definately say ..."O.K return it & I will give you another one".
So you would drive back 20 kms to get the replacement.
You would be spending money to reach that shop.
Similar is the case of Internet BUYING & SELLING.
If you have to get a replacement you will have to send it back to the Seller.
The Seller would then send it back (new one) to you at his expense. So the deal is fair. Extra shipping is divided between Buyer & Seller.
This is the normal procedure until the Seller mentions something in his guarantee / warranty / replacement / money back POLICY.
ebay doesn't intervene in between as ebay encourages sellers to mention everything in the return Policy.
Hope this clarifies.
