Ebay purchase sent via EMS from Japan

Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased a digital camera from Japan and the seller has sent the same to me via EMS post. The tracking number shows that the item is received in Mumbai (2 days after being sent from Japan). After confirming with India post via email, I received a reply stating that the item is being held with customs. India post also provided me with a telephone number for contacting customs - 022 26156152. But no one answers this number, no matter when you call.

As confirmed with the seller the article has been sent as a gift to me. Not sure now how to proceed with this. I am located at Mumbai. It's already been more than 10 days and am not sure how to proceed further on this. Can anyone please help me out?

Regards.

Dear questor_in,
I can help you with some information.
Even if the article had been marked as GIFT, the value must also be declared with it(Its compulsary to do so).

You will need to visit Custom department by taking address from Post office where such issue are handle.
The custom may charge you some duty if its applicable and then will release the article.
So without wasting more time,I think its time for your to act as you are the only person who is suffering.

So I hope the issue will be resolved soon.

Please keep update with the issue.

Deep Agarwal.

Hi,

Better take the eBay payment receipt / Invoice with you incase you are asked to pay duties higher than what should be. .
