Custom duties while importing through courier

hey,
i want to order a videogame and some games from a chinese site. can anyone tell me how much do i have to pay as customs or taxes for it. it is coming from hongkong via ups.

Hi,

Normally you should receive such low value items directly at your house thru the courier.

In the most likely event of the courier being charged duty by the customs, the courier company must intimate you about the port (office) of landing. In that case you have to visit that customs office , pay the charges and clear the courier. I must say that it my not be that easy as my description but as mentioned, such a situation is extremely unlikely for such low cost product. .

i m buying xbox 3600 and its games. i will cost around Rs.32000

You can expect a tax of around 6000 Rs.. But you should make sure your seller sends an invoice stating the value of item plus actual shipping,
If it comes through courier , usually the couriers clear the item from customs and charge you when they are delivering.

Hi,

I misjudged the value of the item. For this Price its most likely that the item will attract Customs Duty. As onesimpleman has rightly mentioned, the parcel must accompany the Invoice. Sometimes the courier company pays the charge else you will receive a registered letter from the Dept. of Customs where the Parcel is detained. You have to visit that office with your documents, pay the charge and get it released. Its always better to clear such doubts before purchasing such expensive items. .
