Why does it cost so much for postage & packaging to UK

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm starting a market stall in the UK and am trying to source western style clothing. I've found a couple of sites that I'm interested in buying from but the postage & packaging costs are extortionate. They want to charge me the cost they listed for sending it per item less 15% discount even though I would like to buy say 8 of the same thing.

I imagine that postage costs are the same in India as elsewhere and that after the main cost of postage you can add extra weight and the price would go up in small increments.

This seller wants to charge £66.00 for sending 6 dresses and 1 skirt.

I would love it if someone could explain why this is and suggest a safe and secure way of posting to the UK without it costing the earth.

Shipping cost depends on by which you send goods and positively on weight. From India Shipping cost will be minimum if you receive items through Registered air parcel ,but not secured. Speed Post Service is secured but rate is similar to International Courier like DHL / DTDC / ARAMEX / FEDEX etc. ARAMEX charged moderate rates to UK.

35 GBP would be a fair rate if you are combining 6 items :)

Hello Mandi.
Shipping cost depends on the weight of the parcel. Lighter the parcel, higher would be the rates. And India registered post is not trackable so no buyer would like to take risk of sending larger consignment with India registered Post as in case parcel got lost during the journey, it will be payable by the seller only.
I will suggest you to call the parcel through any private company only or through India Speed Post.

And Body jewels how can you say that 35 GB would be a fair rate when you don't know the weight of the parcel. Mandi is saying 6 dresses and 1 Skirt, it could be heavy in nature. Please I would like to request you do not misguide the customer when you don't know about the exact situation. Being an old eBayer you should show some sense of deportment towards other sellers.

Many thanks for all your replies. Much appreciated.

The weight of the parcel would be around 3-3.5kg. I've asked the seller if he could post it India Speed Post as it's trackable and from what I can see is half the cost of UPS Courier. Fingers crossed!

I will also check out rates from Aramex to UK.

Like all e-bayers, I need to keep my costs down and am only looking for a fair rate.
