Hello,
Transfer of Residence is known to even a peon working at Indian Customs Offices at all the ports, Intl Airports and the FPOs of India.
Do not put allegations on Indian Customs Houses before having a complete information about the custom clearance procedures and the Indian laws.
If you bring a Television or a Refrigerator or a Laptop, and if you present an original bill of purchase to Indian Customs, then they will release it without asking for any duty.
But in case of collectibles (precious antiques, as you like to call them), the custom department will levy a duty. Because, there is no guarantee that you will keep those collectibles locked in your cupboard forever. There are chances that you may sell them in India immediately or after a year or after 10 years. Hence, for such items, you must pay a duty.
All are aware of these things. No need to post anywhere. Only you didn't know that your country's laws are equally intelligent.
