Hello bharathiyam and all users,
Over the past few days, we have heard from many of you regarding the issue of fraud users. We have taken this feedback seriously, and will look into ways of minimizing this issue.
Considering that India is such a nascent market for e-commerce, our approach so far has been to try and get as many users as possible to try trading (bidding or listing). However, we do realize that this, at times, ends up becoming more effort for our genuine users to find quality buyers and sellers. Hence, we will be focusing more on the quality of the users we will be bringing to the site through our various marketing activities in 2006.
At the same time, this is not an easy task. One of the reasons is that there is no single easily identifiable property to identify users (such as the social security number in the US). Some of you have suggested credit card verification. Again, there are 2 issues:
1. It might still not stop 'Nigerian' users
2. When we discussed this with a group of sellers, sellers were not too keen as they felt that this will also stop genuine users from buying as they might not have credit cards.
Telephone verification has its own operational challenges, one of which is that it might lead to increased cost for all our users.
We are looking at how best to address this issue keeping in mind all of the above issues.
We will love to have your feedback on the points I have mentioned.
