Hi folks!
I always thought e bay is a safe place to trade and the e bay team maintained high standards of integrity. Few of my friends advised me against any transaction on e bay. However I took the plunge. I thought I will do some transactions to get some experience and help the community if I saw things not OK. I shall now list out my experiences one by one.
First I bought a diamond ring for Rs 5200/- from a seller Mehta diamonds. .50 cts. What I received was an apology to a diamond ring. there were five small diamonds of one point each making a total of .05 cts. As a learned person you know that there is a lot of difference between .05 cts and .5 cts. the diamonds were ten times smaller. So I spoke to the seller and they promised to change it. It cost me Rs200/- to sell the item back. The seller received the item on 10 Nov 09. Did not take any action till 27 ov Nov. S o Initiated a case for refund.
There was a Diwali gift which was never sent or received. I assumed thet the gift would be despatched only once the transaction is complete.
E bay promised a reply by 03 Dec 09. I havent received one so far. Resolution centre says the case is closed. May be it means that E bay will now process the case in house and let you know later.
Isn't it strange? How many such cases would be there where the money is held by e bay for some silly reason? Cant the community invoke RTI without actually going to a court? Doesn't corporate governance teach the elite e bay team the difficulties they would face when actually some one demands such details invoking provisions of RTI and PIL. Today its so easy to do it. I like a response from the e bay management on this issue.
Please join together so that every one benefits from personal experiences and recommend good and destroy the bad. It appears to be a good cause to enlighten everyone.

Has any one ever worked out the probability of striking a reasonably good bargain out of e BAY?
That would be damn interesting!
What are the imponderables?
Where all can the things go wrong?
Poor seller
Poor despatch
Spurious goods
Chinese imitations.
No guarantee.
Imaginary seller.
Scope to change e bay id.
Reseller technical problems.
Payment problems.
Goods not as advertised.
Long refund procedure.
Community courts.
Negative feedback cancellations.
Reference to higher level authorities.
Used goods.
Refurbished goods.
Insane sellers.
More insane buyers.
It all sounds like a bad weather forecast. Still many get good stuff. That is the beauty of probability. So how cheap it should be on e Bay for a seller and buyer?

What has it on offer? Who is protected> the seller or the buyer? What are the time limits laid by the system and accountability demanded of e bay?
Can someone throw some light? Any buyer who has been benefited? A case of prompt refund to build some confidence? can someone volunteer to give his experience?

This guy sold chinese mobile without any legal imei which is against the policy of Government of India. We purchased the set and thought the cell is having legal IMEI. But the cell stop working after November. And GII centre has stopped implanting new imei. I asked for money refund for cheating. Mobile Accessories is Asking for Rs 400 plus courier charge as he will replace the imei (Which is also illegal as Gii centre has stop implanting imei)
MY SINCERE APPEAL TO EBAY AND EBAY COMMUNITY PLEASE BAN THIS SELLER AND TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST HIM.

Good Point Devesh, I agree with you. Every time a seller fails to meet the delivery deadline or money is refunded to buyer for any reason (except buyer himself has canceled the order)151 off gift voucher should be sent to the buyer along with his 100% refund.
the commissions+FVF+gift voucher cost should be debited to buyers paisapay account.

I agree with ppureevil. That would be a progress in the correct direction.
I will also suggest that items costing less than the average national courier charges be not listed on e bay and all buyers be charged courier charges for items costing less than 1000/-

It is ethically incorrect to maintain multiple accounts on e bay so as to facilitate not so benign intention of seller. Punitive action by e Bay is welcome and it shows that some cleaning action is on.
Keep it up.

Isn't it amazing that only an empty box is delivered and it will turn out to be the most complex case to be proven. James Bond will have to be employed or paisapay will come into play with community court taking decisions.
First lesson to be learned is to take open delivery.
Second one is to make it mandatory for all consignments to be insured.
Third is to not to allow any listing below 1000/- when the shipping is not charged to the customer.

One of the jury in COMMUNITY COURT says please vote to get my negative feedback off. I am also on the jury panel. Well folks! you can now understand how this court works. There is canvasing and pleading without any discretion. Do the buyers stand a chance?
Its for you sellers to gain confidence of the buyers by being fair and the management to identify dubious sellers and veto their negative feed backs. Work towards this and all will be a happier lot.

It seems that some actions have been taken to streamline e bay global procurements. In my third attempt reseller has confirmed that order for golf set has been accepted.
I am eagerly waiting for the shipment details and the golf set. Lets hope it works out this time.
