Ebay prices too high!

My shopping list in the last one month was
1. Mobile phone
2. Web Camera
3. Wireless Router
4. MP3 Player (after I bought an ipod shuffle on ebay and returned it because it turned out be be a fake)

I decided on the following models after doing some research on the web:
1. Mobile Phone – Nokia N70
2. Web Camera – Logitech Qucikcam Pro 5000
3. Wireless Router – Linksys WRT54G
4. MP3 player – Creative Muvo Tx 512 MB

I first went to ebay to check the prices of these items. The cheapest price for the buy it now items were:
1. N70 – around Rs. 21000/- + shipping (with 1 year warranty). I checked prices toay – I saw an offering at Rs. 18000/- but with 7 days dealer warranty.
2. Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 web camera – Around Rs. 5000/- . However, saw a listing for Rs. 4854/-+shipping today
3. Linksys WRT54G router – around Rs. 5000/-. However, Saw a price today on ebay for Rs. 3700+shipping.
4. Creative Muvo 512 tx – around Rs. 5500/- .

However, I bought all items from brick & mortar shops in Bangalore since in all cases they were cheaper than the prices on ebay. All items were purchased with VAT invoices and came with the standard manufacturer warranties. I am sure these items could be purchased even cheaper from other shops in Bangalore – but I bought my items from shops/mall in the center of the city.

1. N70 – bought for Rs. 18600/- from a shop in Garuda Mall
2. Logitech 5000 – bought from a shop on Brigade Road for Rs. 4400/-
3. Linksys WRT54G – bought from a shop on Brigade Road for Rs. 3200/-
4. Creative Muvo Tx 512 bought for Rs. 4999-/- from a shop in Forum Mall

I think prices quoted by sellers on Ebay are too high. Maybe items are targeted for customers in smaller towns where prices on these items may be more or maybe fees payable to Ebay are too high. I think I can purchase only ‘novelty’ items from ebay which cost a couple of 100 rupees keep keep big ticket purchases to the Brick and Mortar shops.

Hi mm0000_in1,

Some sellers update the prices once the listing ends. Normally electronic goods prices always varies and it all depends on the price where the seller is located.

As I am from Bangalore, I think you paid a little high one the products. ---------------

Hi snrama,

I think you are missing the point. What I was trying to say was that I could walk into the swankiest malls or shops in in the most expensive areas in Bangalore with all their overheads and get items cheaper than the lowest listings on ebay. Off I could have gone to SP Road or some other such area and got the items cheaper.

Hi,

I said that some sellers update the prices only once the current listings ends.

The seller sells at a price depending on what price his distributer is giving him.

See today some sellers are selling N70 at Rs.17000/-. Some are still selling at Rs.21000/-

Hopefully it may become even more cheaper. Electronic goods don't have a value as time and money will not be same.

Not all products are cheaper at eBay. But if you go for certain products, then you will always find them cheaper at eBay. ---------------

I've seen the listing fot the Rs. 17000 + Rs.320 shipping + Rs.120 insurance for the N70 that you mention. However, it only comes with a dealer warranty and not the 1 year Nokia manufacturer warranty. Which would mean any problem and the phone will have to be shipped to the dealer for repairs :(. And no 256 MB MMC memory card, headset and USB Cable which I got with my boxed N70. Therefore, Rs. 17000 + delivery costs + no warranty + no standard accessories makes it overpriced
