Hi,
The answer to the best processor depends on what you need it for.

If you are looking for a processor for a server, you should go with the latest version of AMD opteron.
If you are into heavy gaming AMD athlon FX will suit you fine.
For desktops AMD athylon should be fine.

Try go for a 64 bit processor which will also work with 32 bit software.
www.amd.com will help you find it.
It all depends on your budget and your use.

Why buy Intel's Overpriced CPU when u could have an amazingly fast AMD for a lesser price .I have been using AMD for ages and it kicks A$$ ๐Ÿ˜‰ . about support AMD supports everything .The CPUs also have added technology like 3D now etc ... for better graphics and smooth operation .
PS - You also need a GOOD Motherboard otherwise you performance will die there ,go for MSI or GIGA BYTE .
Try the new 64 bit AMD CPU + MSI Board for 6000/-

Dear Venkatesh,

Buying a PC is till a tuff job specially when you have got more than 50 good motherboards and a dozen processors in front of you.
Here are some suggestions from my long hardware career:

If you engaged in gaming and multimedia applications, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and above is the best. If you can spend 2K more go for the Athlon 3200+ Socket 939 processors.

Regarding motherboards it depends on the type of works you will do. But if you are on a low budget and want splendid performance MSI RS480M2-IL is the best !! I have been using it for 6 months. Excellent performance, no heating, superb graphics(thanx to its Radeon X200 chipset), and good processing. If you can spend a little more go for the nForce 4 Chipset, but remember that every other MBD will need a Video Card to be usable.

AMD Athlon 64 is a fast procesor comparable to Intel's 3GHZ and gives better processing because of its Integrated memory controller unlike Intel which has this on Northbridge. It has Enhanced Virus Protection with XP SP2. AND most important, it does not heat up in summer like all INTEL procs. do.

Thanks ! Hope you buy a nice PC.

do not go for a amd processor, selt only intel p4 3.0ht or pentium d 2.8. amd is a useless processor, it seems to be fast but the facts are still that intel is the fastest. in all ads. amd always compares the best of amd processor to the lowest of the intel one. also note that amd processors heat up a lot. also incase of warranty falure both give 3yrs warranty on box processors, but intel will give you a replacement to the processor of the same speed and type even in the 36th month but amd seldon will be able to give a replacemnt processor even in the 10th month from date of purchase they will give you only a credit note for the value of the processor so you have to buy yourself a new processor with the money given to you. but by that time you may not find aprocessor compatible to your motherboard so you will land into having to change your motherboard too at our cost, and also if there the powersupply and ram technology also if it changes in the future then you had it, SO GO ONLY FOR A INTEL PROCESSOR

it all depend on the type of pc u want depending on the price and work
1. gaming ? ( high end only amd 939 and above or amd x2 )
2. little gaming and multimedia ( amd 64(737) >3200xp= or amd 64 (939) >3000xp+ or intel pentium 4 ht 64 >3.2 or intel D )
3. low end any amd sempron or intel p4 64 processor.

the best processor is the AMD X2 ( but costly AMD X2 4200+ cost greater than 20k , are u ready to buy it or alternatively wait for the prices to drop.
which city are u from
