Hi,
I have been following this thread, and have some thoughts that can be thought upon to understand the โtrust sealโ better.
The idea behind having a trust seal, as I understand, is to give assurance to a new user that the seller is physically available.
However, donโt you think ratings serve the same purpose? If I have received a feedback from someone, normally it would mean that I am a person who has interacted with some one and I am physically available.
Besides ratings are a great way of knowing about the quality of product and service. The same will not be possible in case of proof of identity supplied by the seller. Ratings tell the whole eBay community on how reliable a person is with whom they are choosing to trade.
As we have often seen, 90% of times users are genuine and honest. They do not need to furnish any proof to prove their honesty. Many new sellers, who start on eBay, start for testing or selling off second hand goods that are just lying around the house. If eBay asks them to furnish various proofs, will it not act as a trade barrier instead of trade facilitator?
Having said the above, I also appreciate that it is equally important to recognize users who have performed well and sell quality products supported by able customer service. For the same, we have Power Seller program in place. It serves as a trust seal to recognize users, who have 98% positive feedback, and many satisfied customers.
I hope my two cents were useful :-).
Regards,
Sapana
